PoE 2 looks potentially incredible, but I can't be the only one...
" This I completely agree with and acknowledge. It's the strong counter argument to my reservations. I have friends who are this exactly. Last edited by t0lkien#7048 on Nov 23, 2024, 7:26:07 AM

" They could not.. to fix animations they needed to reduce the speed of the game. That lead to the need to massively change everything on the game, then players started whining that they did not wanted the game to be slow (not me, I love slow). If they wanted to make fuild animations that made sense and that people could see, they had to change the core gameplay. |

" Not true AFAIK. It was a huge undertaking because of their old animation system for sure (they didn't have to slow down everything, but they would have had to rewrite some core systems), but it would have been a smaller task than making an entirely new game. It's all good though, because here we are. We'll know if the choices were the right ones in a few weeks. Last edited by t0lkien#7048 on Nov 23, 2024, 10:50:00 AM

The decision to split the playerbase isn't exactly new. It was made not long after the reveal from >5 years ago. It was a pretty obvious decision to make, and the next pretty obvious decision will be to shut down PoE 1. It's just gonna take a little while until the shift is big enough to warrant it.

0 regret here.
poe1 was great for its time, its the best arpg there has ever been. but really that is down to how unthinkably trash blizzard is. diablo 4 should have blown this thing off the face of the earth, diablo 3 should have nuked it in its crib. they didnt need to be this complex, they didnt need to be too niche to overlap fanbases. i play diablo 3 and have done for 1000s of hours, i play d4, and ive played 20k hours of poe. theres massive overlap. those games are just massive fails in many places, its not that theyre great games for a different audience as many copers have tried to claim, theyre not, theyre just trash in a lot of ways. thing is, poe1 is also bad in some ways and the devs know it. theyve designed themselves into bad corners that they cant get out of with a live game. the games amazing, for its time it was fantastic. but its probably better now than its ever been overall, its just that its set a bar and shown what can be done so the ceiling for an arpg is now so high. theres enough problems with poe, and always has been, that blizzard should have released a better overall game. this game is so far from perfect, it could do so many things so much better than it does. now ggg are going to do it instead. poe2 looks so much better than poe1, i honestly thought id be playing both equally but the more i see of it the more i wonder why i would rly bother spending much time in poe1. its looking like poe1 will literally be a thing i only play because ive burned out on poe2 and need a refresh. " But after a certain threshold, it becomes pretty obvious to contemplate that a few more steps and you are at a new game (and potentially fee of several legacy problems that you have been dragging) . The whole, animations matter, we want skills to be used in combo and we want players using several skills almost that mandatorily demand that half the game turn 180 degrees from where POE1 have been moving. |
|
" The "next pretty obvious decision" was to inform the playerbase of the decision change, and not to keep us waiting for FOUR YEARS before bothering to let us know. If GGG had been up-front about things, I would not be nearly so pissed off as I ended up being. ='[.]'= =^[.]^= basic (happy/amused) cheetahmoticon: Whiskers/eye/tear-streak/nose/tear-streak/eye/

Does it make 100% sense to split the projects and make PoE 2 a completely new game, giving them all the freedom they need to make it "perfect"? Of course. Splitting the projects was the right thing to do.
Do I wish they added new animations and character models to PoE 1 as well? Of course. And I still hope they'll do it. The promise of keeping to support PoE 1 does in my head include technical and mechanical support, as well as content support. " I also agree with this. It was the right thing to do, but how they did it - and communicated it, deserves a lot of criticism. Four years of expecting them to update my favorite game with new tech just went down the drain in one second of a live stream. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you. Last edited by Phrazz#3529 on Nov 23, 2024, 12:29:12 PM

" Same. I hate how the character models still look like potatoes while the newer NPCs all look banger. Gaming PC: Win 11, R7 7600X3D, RTX 4080, 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30, 7000 MB/s SSD, 3840x2160p 120Hz

honestly i would expect a lot of unfinished work that could be finished for PoE1, like the new character models and rigging (which they have used in some of the new bosses), the skill system and sockets revamp (must have been partially finished on PoE1)
Engine upgrades and more. Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi
