PoE2 early access predictions.

I can't think of anything else worth being discussed given the state of current PoE + PoE2. The community can share their predictions if the early access will be worth buying, playing, following, etc.

My main prediction is that I don't see myself playing PoE2 enough to purchase/support the early access like how it's been for a while now with PoE. I don't see myself playing PoE2 enough, because whatever info they'll disclose two weeks before launch is too short of a period for the info that's already been lacking, which is it's endgame and how the product could retain my interest past the campaign, which for me is perceived as another "single player" exp where you kill mobs to kill more mobs type of thing.

It felt PoE2 early access was targeted toward the console co-op market, where instead of completing the acts "single player mode", can enhance that exp playing it with IRL friend, but that's not me and my guess the majority. Yes, I expect there will be more "treadmill" type of grind beyond the acts, but for me the content has always been the community, because of my competitive nature, and the game being advertised as an "online" ARPG with featured rankings / ladders.

In my opinion, PoE1 has been severely lacking in terms of its competitive design and events for a while now, outside a single 10 day Gauntlet event that's been happening between multiple 4+ months leagues, so it makes sense why GGG needs PoE2 to help with the overall retention, which I can see improving late 2025 when both games won't be in early access, and hopefully in a much better competitive state, which also includes shorter league cycles.

I do see a bright future for GGG from what they can still do with both products and the continuous flops/failures within the industry, mainly its competition like Lost Ark, Diablo 4, lately Throne of Liberty and others.

Overall, the industry has been in a decline for a while now due to factors like the pandemic that limited companies of what they could develop, the evolving graphical technology that delayed products including PoE2 and rest of the challenges that come with investing, building and managing a company, hiring the talent that other industries are recruiting and meeting certain markets demand of tomorrow.

Finally, I came to PoE around 4-6 months after World of Warcraft: Draenor and I bring this up because I did not support or played the PoE beta (early access) and going back I would still make the same choice, given the initial state it was delivered by an indie team/company, but thankfully their "vision" and "goals" aligned with enough supporters and as time did pass by, well the company/game didn't follow the same faith that many products did over the decade.

With limited markets and what they're willing to support, usually it means few will succeed while many will fail, and we all want and hope for those few to continue succeeding, because we aren't GGG or other companies, just a group of people, a market with a shared interest.

Yeah but how did you get on the last gauntlet?
My prediction for PoE2: Kopogero still insists he's better than Ben and wants more focus on competition from GGG.
I predict a lot of tears (game is too hard) and fomo.
Maasive influx of people to the forums and a ton of toxicity. Oh and lots of threads of people threatening to quit if GGG don't do xyz.
I predict that Kopogero will continue to not play PoE1 or 2.

A lot of people will try the game and drop it. I'll maybe try it for the first league that comes out for it, only because of the nice-looking graphics and UI.

But if it's too slow/too "difficult" then I ain't touching the game at all lol
It's clear they're just making some kind of weird attempt at a dark souls clone and that's their idea of a "hardcore" arpg(whatever that's supposed to mean).

So many questionable choices like resetting bosses on death, being literally forced to do all minibosses in the campaign to get all your passive boosts because everyone will want stuff like + max spirit. Still no campaign skip in either game. They have no idea how many players will be chased away by this anti-fun design. If the game isn't fun then it isn't even worth playing. Especially if endgame is slowed down and you can't just make op builds easily.

PoE has always been a game about becoming a demigod and killing millions of enemies, if you can't do that anymore then it's not PoE anymore. It's something else, and that isn't what most players signed up for when they try PoE 2. They expect a sequel to build upon the previous entry and improve, not be a completely different game. They might aswell have given it a different name instead of just a "2" at the end, because it is a different game.

My suggestion if your genuine concern is there not being enough content is to play the game in hardcore mode. That forces a different playstyle that promotes both a bigger challenge (for most) along with a need to understand mechanics. If your playstyle is to blast through a game as quickly as possible and it doesn't matter how frequently you're corpse hopping, then your same argument can be made for any game on the market.

There are two sides to the story though and both sides could be considered fun. For example;

1) You understand the mechanics of a boss fight so well that you can defeat the boss wearing starting gear and a wooden sword. Might take you 10 minutes to kill though.

2) Your build is so strong that you kill the boss in 1 hit and avoid the need to explore any of it's actual mechanics.

You see, both situations could be viewed as "good" or "fun" but it just depends on how you enjoy playing. In my opinion, POE1 is more for the second playstyle, where POE2 might appeal more to the first.

I would encourage you to just be open minded regardless of how it turns out. Obviously you enjoy what they've developed so far, so have some confidence in what's to come. GGG does a good job at observing feedback and making adjustments when needed based on the community. I'd also argue that the way GGG runs their business is on a completely different level than a company like Activision/Blizzard, especially in terms of innovation within the genre.

At the end of the day, poe1 will still remain in development with league cycles staggered with poe2. By the time you've neared completion with one league, the next will be right around the corner.

Not everyone is enjoying when everything is easy and the most hard part of the game is crafting mirrored-tier gear

Also the game is not being created FOR i-want-it-easy player
Chris stated in the past that he wanted to make a hard game (he played HC-diablo and wanted to make something like that iirc)

If the game will be hard and doing some "content" will be like - only 5% of players finished this super labyrinth.. then im hyped as i could be

I like when there's a sense of achievement, so does Chris

Well then the game will have way less players. There's a reason barely anyone plays ruthless in poe 1, the main audience of this game isn't interested in insanely punishing hard gameplay. That's just a niche. After the initial hype dies down the steam numbers will show us how many people really enjoy poe 2 anyway.
