Player needs help otherwise quit game again
Hi. I have been playing this game for a while now. Not even sure when first I started. Left for some years and returned few leagues ago. I had few friends on list but non very helpful. Even tried joining guilds. But all playing just for themselves. Not much chatting or helping fairly noob player. I understand there are build creators and youtubers. As far I can tell most just in it for the views and subs. Making money with all sorts of crappy content. Baiting so many people.
I made 1 lvl 100 character in all the time i spent playing. Without much help. I had lucky drop and bought myself 5ways to lvl100. If there are any players in game that are willing to help and teach. Please dm me. Last bumped on Sep 10, 2024, 5:13:45 AM

You can get help here on the forum. It sounds like you want something more personal. It's largely a solo game, so most people play that way. I know that guilds certainly exists in ruthless, some people are playing and trying to work together as a community. It probably exists in the other modes as well but you might need to find the right one for you. Maybe trade league is a bit more frivolous, but there will be people happy to help in all leagues.
Possibly you might be able help some people as well. I looked at your profile, you seem to know what you are doing. There are many people on the forum that have questions, and while you are learning yourself, it sounds like you might also have some knowledge that could help other players. If you were able to get your character that far, that is an achievement in itself. Last edited by Belegur85#5784 on Sep 1, 2024, 5:04:39 PM

Thanks for the reply. Yes what I know mostly learned the hard way. Wasted lots of currency and time . Crafting is definitely not what I am good at and would like to get better at it. Also I would like to learn how to get league starting much better. I normally only get going after league has been going a couple of weeks. I like the game but sometimes feel I am just playing and not getting anywhere. Hence all the characters. Trying lots of them to get something good going.
I would appreciate if I can get some pointers where help can be found. A few leagues ago 1 guy helped me a little but he left the game by looks of it. I also dont have anyone as friend in game. It sucks playing alone. Last edited by Koelieman31#4002 on Sep 2, 2024, 1:19:53 AM

I think the trick with league start, at least while learning and wanting to go fast, is to play a meta build. Also to practice the build before the league and maybe over multiple leagues if possible. That's not for everyone, I don't often play the same build leagues in a row, that's a bit boring, but when I have, like with RF a few times, it gets a lot faster once you know a lot about the build. I didn't play a meta build this league, but I did do quite a bit of practice leading up to the league, which helped a lot. That's not for everyone either, some people will think that is ruining the fun of the league. It does help a lot though. There was a few other builds I made in practice that were ok, but probably wouldn't of gone quite as well. So if it's not a meta build, I think this helps. I'm still going much slower than a lot of other people, but faster than I would of if I hadn't practiced.
Crafting I can't give much help on, I'm still learning myself, I think it's something a large amount of the players aren't particularly good at and a small amount are very good at. I think most people can make good enough items, but doing it in an efficient way is another matter. Unless you are trying to make really top end items, it's not a roadblock to having a good build though. Most information is available, you just have to know what you are looking for exactly. I understand what you are saying about streamer information, but there is often helpful information from those sources as well. Do you used all the regular tools to help you? Like POB, craftofexile, POE ninja etc? It is good to be able to figure things out with out these, but they are pretty useful as well. It depends on what you are trying to achieve exactly. I know you might not be going as fast as some people, but also If I look at your account, I can tell you are more advanced than just an average casual player. So the information you are looking for might be more advanced than is available sometimes. Try not to judge yourself always by people that are playing the game as their whole life. I can see you can make character that work on your own. If there is specific questions about some things people will probably be able to help. If I wanted to get much better at league start, say going faster, I would probably watch what people are doing that are going much faster than me, and see if its possible to apply with what I am doing. I'll give an example, I'm not very fast at the campaign. During practice for this league I watched some of the fastest campaign runs I could find, you can see some people have uploaded some here https://www.speedrun.com/poe . There is no way I am going to be able to go that fast, I'm not vendor walking, knowing build perfectly in advance, knowing the map layouts etc. I still can get a lot of useful information though. So I practice rain of arrows and was going much faster than I usually level. When patch notes come out, I decided I actually want to make my own build, but it still helped to know, this is some of the things I need if I want to go fast. I'm still going much slower than them, but have improved a bit and my build was fairly successful this league. Still this may not be for everyone. If you are able to learn things yourself that is even better than relying on these other sources. One thing I can say, is that when I played ruthless I found people were very friendly. You may not want to play these other modes, I mainly just like to do my own thing, but there were a lot of people there of all different skill levels and it was hard to not get involved with what other people were doing if you had chat on. There's actually not that many people playing the mode and there will always be people you run into that you don't care for, but in general people we're helpful there and seemed to have a bit of a shared goal. When you get involved in trade it's a bit different, because everyone wants a good deal for themselves, efficiency etc, but I guess in ruthless people are less worried about this, by virtue of the mode they have chosen to play. Most people wanted to be sharing the information they had with the other players. The downside being there's not that many people in the mode, and since it is restrictive with rules some people wont like playing it. The other leagues like SSF are good as well, although it sounds like you want to make some very powerful builds at the moment, which I understand too, i'm liking SC trade for a change being able to attain most gear easily, do bosses etc. Poe is not the best for party play unfortunately. If you are using the same server it is probably fine, but the game isn't really designed for party play imo, even if a lot of people do still do it. I think if you are looking to party up, probably want to find people around your same skill level, or maybe below, if you don't mind going a bit slower, but if you can find people that go at the same pace, that is probably best. You might be able to get involved in some private leagues. I've never done that, but it seems to be becoming more popular. Making friends in a predominantly solo game can be tough, but there are lots of friendly people in the community so I'm sure it is possible. Last edited by Belegur85#5784 on Sep 2, 2024, 2:47:06 AM

" A great source for league starters would be looking at HC SSF builds on PoE Ninja. Reason being that those build have to have the defenses to not die - for obvious reasons - and since the players cant trade, they have to rely on readily available items. That doesnt need to be your real endgame build, altho it might very well be. I usually pick my endgame build, knowing full well I cant leaguestart this build cuz requires too much stuff I simply wont have access to. But that doesnt matter. Ill instead go for one of the afore mentioned HC SSF builds using the same ascendancy or at least base class. This allows me to get through the campaign and early mapping stages effortlessly. Afterwards I farm whatever my real builds needs and switch whenever Im ready to do so. Basically I need a "basic bitch" build thats allowing me to farm what I need for the real build. Thats what it boils down to. On top of that I like to have one speedfarmer build, which is going to farm stuff - obviously. And then a bosskiller builds once Im ready to go past pinnacle bosses and tackle T17s plus uber bosses. Thats totally optional and up to whatever it is you want to achieve in any given league. However, setting realistic goals for yourself is quite important. You dont need to beat every single bit of content the game has to offer in a single league. Learning how use Expedition or Blight as league mechanics can be a valid goal. Next league you pick something else and learn not only which of the mechanics are enjoyable but also profitable and go from there. The game is too complex to learn all of it in one go. Try to focus on small chunks instead. |

Thanks so much. I do follow some build guides. But always hit a wall with mainstream creators. Then after looking around for long time I would come across some unknown person with very little youtube views and try that. Most times it actually works then. I appreciate the time you take trying to help. I just want to make it to t17 maps at least once and finish 1. This league was first time i could do eater ever solo. So yes doing things self does get a person there. It took me few years though. Maybe I am not made to be a gamer. :) I REALLY APPRECIATE you guys input. I used to be loooong time Diablo player and there was public games for running some high lvl dungeons. I should not compare the games but I got tired of Diablo. I think I just need some pointers of where to go for farming currency and gear early on. I dont want a boss killer. Just decent mapper for high juiced maps. I never even finished juiced t16 maps. Would like to get the mapping thing done. I pay every league for my voidstones so far. Which I feel is pretty sad .

I ran into quite a bit of old school diablo players playing ruthless. You are obviously looking for something different than that now enjoying standard mode encountering the bosses.
I don't think you are having trouble making good builds, I think it might be other things that you are looking to learn, like knowing what to farm, keeping up with the meta etc. So much things get added in, It sound like you are not stuck, but just still learning. I think you will find that you will just naturally learn these thing but you are catching up on some knowledge because you didn't play for a while. Playing leagues is great, but you also can get in a bit of a loop where you are building a new character all the time and not progressing further. I probably don't have enough knowledge to be able to teach you these things as I'm still learning myself, but I think if you are specific about your questions people will be able to help. You will probably get some bad information too, but overall you should be able to learn what you want. For example, with farming gear early on, where are you talking about exactly? Campaign, yellow maps? In trade this basically means farming currency because you can buy what you need. Knowing exactly what you build needs along the way is probably a big part of that. For example this league I was intending to use cloak of flames, then realized latter on that I needed all red socket chest. Practicing up to maps does not reveal that, it is something I had not thought about in my design, and would be much quicker if I ran the build again. The more you know about the build the faster you will be on league start. Sometimes just knowing the final product does not account for the journey of getting there. Most people are not running juiced up T 16/17 maps. You are talking about a sub section of a subsection of players, of which you are not far off by the looks of it. What in particular is preventing you from doing this. Do the builds you play feel a bit too squishy? Is it just too slow to clear? Are you not sustaining enough currency? Are you unsure about your atlas set up? I've only recently started doing these map so I'm not the best to guide. Sometimes you might need a second build at this point, once you can afford it, unless you know you have started a build that can handle it. Over juicing them might be part of the problem, you might need to work up to it and make sure you are rolling the maps with mods that are good for your build. I'm looking at your current build, I don't see anything wrong with it. Do you think it has enough damage? POB damage number isn't a good indicator of how good a build is, so I don't know enough about the build to know if it is good or not, that might be a lot on some builds. Just that people farming like you are talking about might have more than this. For example my current build has 12mil POB damage, but it is much less than this in reality, so your build could potentially be a lot closer to that. I would think your build is probably very good at clearing T16 but encounters some resistance when the mods start stacking up? You can probably clear them with 8 mods but it might just be much slower? Last edited by Belegur85#5784 on Sep 2, 2024, 4:24:54 PM

" T17s are quite a bit away then. Focus on getting to uber elder and learning that fight. T17s would be the next step after that. |

Zizaran and Pohx have this several hours runs just before new League where they go from start to end act 10 and explain everything along. Worth watching because a lot of things get explained in those vids.

I think this is exactly what I am trying to say here. Making my builds better by knowing what to go for in maps. I do clear t16 with the ice nova build. Other characters were because I felt stuck. Hopefully I will get better once I know what to go for that can make steady income and thus improving my character
