I occasionally have this in some select games and for me adjusting graphics helps a lot. Something about excessive bloom, motion blur and oversharpened images (or bad implementations of fxaa) gets to my eyes. Final Fantasy XIV's recent "graphics update" is a good example, that shit just straight up gives me eye strain where I haven't had any issues playing for 10 years prior.
I wholeheartedly agree with what others have said, though. Investing into a good monitor (and a pair of glasses if you need them) is a game changer. Literally.
Japanese games are especially bad for this for me. I think it's their general lack of using antialiasing and their shadows usually look weird. It's gotten better as hardware has improved over the years but it's always been harder for me to look at Japanese games vs western games for some reason
