I wonder how many of these failed leagues will it take GGG for them to learn, if ever?
Just an observation, but I wonder why it only seems the players, and not the devs themselves, notice that any time the Devs try to mess with player progression in an effort to slow it down (likely in their brain thinking that if they slow it down, the players will stay longer), that it results in the exact opposite, with players getting frustrated, bored, and bailing on the league early?
The devs have tried a number of things - making loot rarer, making yellow mobs harder, and this league, making an unavoidable league mechanic that results in a ton of one-shots and player frustration. Whatever vision the developers originally had for Path of Exile, their own player base has made it clear - the players want to ZOOM. So instead of stifling builds with artificial road blocks, and trying to force players to play the game slower, it might behoove to developers to instead, if they are that concerned about retention, finding ways to INCENTIVIZE players to stay and roll new builds. I won't pretend to know how to do that or what that would look like. All I know is that I've been here since betrayal, and every time the developers try to reign in the players because of philosophical differences, we end up with some of the worst retention leagues on record. At some point, I hope the developers wake up to this, and instead of hurting the things players find fun, they try to focus their efforts on rewarding players who stick around... The devs know, they just don't care. There is a reason why 'vision' is memed about so much. They got a ton of playtester feedback prior to kalandra that the league was utterly miserable and let it go live with no changes aside from minimal bugfixes, I have the feeling they got similar feedback this league and once again ignored it. Whoever is in charge of balancing stuff clearly is of the opinion that the only way the game can be good is if everyone except the top .0001% of players basically can't actually play the game.

"As long as people are buying the Supporter Packs/Other MTX's they don't REALLY have to change anything honestly. | |
" 100%. They are making money. Why should they put in more work? Here's a good reason...because they don't have to. I poop, therefore I am.

League has been pretty fun.
The power creep has been off the chart with the item printer graveyard and there are some stupidly fast, tanky builds to play. The devs absolutely know what they are doing and I cannot wait to see how they alter the puzzle next league. |

They haven't functionally tried to slow us down properly since expedition, don't conflate changes.
we have continued the steady power creep every league exactly like usual so we still zoom and aim to zoom Edit: Not that I disagree completely with OP, GGG absolutely should focus more time on making rerolls more fun to keep players in the ecosystem if they are enjoying themselves. Not that that's easy, there are already lots of options but nobody takes them due to the increasing railroading of an established meta. Last edited by Draegnarrr on May 31, 2024, 2:53:45 AM

" They/we do want to zoom. That doesn't mean GGG shouldn't keep us in check from time to time by adding challenges, tough enemies or other mechanics that force us to use our brains from time to time. There needs to be a game in there somewhere, you know - even if the game is fast and we just want to zoom. It's a tough balance, which you seem to be very ignorant of. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

In case you haven't noticed they're going all in on PoE 2. PoE 1 is on life support until it eventually releases. It's blatantly obvious that their priorities are not player enjoyment or quality gameplay anymore. Furthermore they have implemented draconian mute policies meaning that trade leagues are officially dead if you happen to type "." or something in chat.
My most hated game.
My most favorite game. Such is the duality of man. |

" This might be the most accurate thing here. Even though its a different style, I've been impressed with the POE2 devs and their willingness to even rethink the entire design of the game itself once they discover something fun that would really add to the game. PoE 2 might play slower than POE 1, but it looks like it is being designed from the ground up to make that slower play as interactive and rewarding as possible, and it thus far seems completely uninhibited by "the vision" while still recognizing and holding true to the things that made POE1 fun to interact with. I have this weird feeling that the true POE-killer... will be POE2.... |

" hardly any resources are invested in poe1. so you can save yourself the whole mini nano update for league. obviously only poe2 is being developed. and poe1 is a titanic that is already half under the water. |
