POE2 Multiplayer vs Solo-play incentives and SSF

"
Really? How many hours of football do football players tend to play? How old is chess? I said "games", not "ARPGs" quite intentionally. (Yes yes, football is multiplayer, but a reduction in football players is coming off a much larger number/degree of ubiquity than a reduction in POE players)

you did just name 2 multiplayer games though, their replayability largely comes from the fact other people are involved.

ive played this game for 20k hours.

my most played single player game in the time since the internet revolutionised multiplayer is possibly skyrim? according to steam ive played that for 236 hours.

i think if poe was a totally solo game i could get 1k hours out of it, maybe 2k.

Sure, I caught myself there too; brain was a bit fried when I posted that, clearly. Nonetheless, their flavour of longevity doesn't come from a trading system, it doesn't rely on there being a million active players at once, and it would an absurdity to celebrate most such games surviving a tiny 10 years.

I'm not really arguing anything's good or bad there, just, you know, alternate perspective.

I would suggest though that two thousand hours on one piece of entertainment media is not a small amount, and things coming to an end is not a negative. I mean I read two books in about the last week or so, which puts them at maybe fifteen hours each at the maximum. That's not a problem. It's okay for things not to require half your life.
