people saying "trading has to have friction" are the equivalent of boomers complaining that kids nowadays google everything rather than reading at the library. get on with the times, old man.

Oh "COME ON MAN"... I still use the Dewey Decimal system at the library dude.. and I'm gen-x, so boomer this g' . :)

Im looking forward to having instant buy outs, works in other games should work here. Gold will limit transactions and not everyone will use it anyhow.
I wish they would do this in PoE 1. It's my #1 issue of dissatisfaction with the game.

For people who don't play a lot, having to be on to sell is ridiculous. Not to mention, when I am on, I don't want to be sitting in my hideout to make trades.

That's a big motivation to go SSF for a lot of us.

Trade just sucks in this game. Half the time you get no replies, other half of the time it's X minutes you have to wait. Or you get messaged while you're doing something you'd rather do.

Realistically all of this is fixable with instant buyouts on tabs that people can browse. Items clearly labeled for trade on a public tab such as boots for 1 alch, etc.

.. To address some other concerns in the thread:

As for bots getting better at sniping items well they do that anyway. Why bother holding back good game features to stop something they already do? You are so concerned about what the botting community is doing that you'd prevent players from getting access to something that is a serious quality of life upgrade. That's myopic and part of the problem.
Insta buyout would insta solve many issues in poe1:

1. Cluster jewels vs Crucible weapons: they are so similar, both of the features extend the build tree, providing powerful builds. But Clusters are success and Crucible is not, why is that? Because Cluster Jewels are craftable with stacked currencies (only need to buy the base and a bunch of crafting materials once), while Crucible weapon are created from a lot of single trades brutoforcing the tree: have to trade the bases one by one.

2. Ultimatum contracts and their continuation, T17 maps (originally unmodifiable): if they would be insta tradeable in bulk with filters, there would be less complaints about “build breaking” mods. There would an economy of map mods and there would be niche builds, that would be able to run difficult mods and they would get difficult maps for cheap, profiting from their ability to run “impossible” mods like penetration or union of souls.

3. Necropolis corpses: it would be great if they would be insta tradeable in bulk. Along with some other QoL fixes, Necropolis crafting would an okay feature.

And to people complaining about “bots” or “cornering the market” (liquidity issues):
For a bot there’s no difference if there’s insta buyout or not. Bots manipulate the market even if trades are slower. Everything bad that could happen to the economy ALREADY happened in poe1.
What if someone tries to manipulate the market of for example Magebloods? Farming Apothecary becomes much more profitable and people switch to farm it.
If there are liquidity issues as with Original Sin or Orb of Dominance in the league, then it is already happening even without insta buyouts.

So there are no reasons to not add it to poe1.

What is a bit worrying is the dichotomy between the devs and players “people won’t longer accept arpg that doesn’t have instant buyouts”. In this case there is absolutely no dichotomy and it’s win-win for both sides.

Overall i don’t like this approach of “clunkyness as a feature”. I don’t believe clunkyness improve games at all. That’s just develop’s bias to not fix UX defects.

Maybe it’s my bias, as I’m a gamer, not a game developer. But previously I quit leagues after having a few stash tabs full of items, boredom of sorting items: tabs affinities solved the issue. Game became much better.

Next clunkyness to dispose (absolutely must): loot spam-clicking issues and lack of insta buyouts.

I hear you, and I have thought about it (SSF), but it's an even worse solution for me. Of my various gear pieces, the best ones I have are all bought. I have bought 8 items so far, 6 for 1 chaos each, 1 fusing, and 5 alteration. So I haven't exactly broken the bank here, but the items are far better than any I have found.

SSF would be much more appealing if there weren't billions of drops which are worthless. I can't imagine what it takes for a casual player, playing SSF, to make any real progress.

One thing of note: For all but one of my trade purchases, the response to the initial DM, invite to hideout, etc, have been near instantaneous. Do people "bot" the selling/trade process? Cause it seems weird that those players were all right there, and acting so quickly.
I'll try again.

Instant buyouts?

No need to deal with people who set a low price on their items but ask for much more when you send them a whisper?

No more 1000 whispers to not get an answer or have to deal with (see above) some people?

Awesome.

Gen-X here.

Boomers were already too old to care about a ARPG 10 years ago. Millennials and Gen-X were the ones playing POE1 from the start. I know my dad wouldn't give two peanuts about anything that isn't fly fishing or cycling 10 years ago. Let alone now in 2024.

People complaining that bots will be the one benefiting from instant buyout don't realize that bot are already using instant buyouts with live search feature. So, that argument is pretty much dead.
