Wait for poe2.
No money until, GGG fix melee.

|
The main problem is clunkiness and not being able to deal damage while moving. Totems also make melee awkward.
I really hope GGG allows us to use WSAD movement to attack while moving for melee but it looks like they will only do that for ranged attacks :^( The only 'melee' build I enjoy now use generals cry to payload big slow melee hits while I use cyclone for utility and defense. | |
Melee has come a LONG way in the last few years. It is what I play most and I see the difference. I think the real issue is buffing close proximity builds rather than the umbrella term melee. There are some skills that are listed as "melee" that are really not melee. My ideas:
- Make additional Relic buffs (att spd, melee dam, or maybe something different like overwhelm, etc...), which can't be used with totems, and kick them up to totem strength. - Tone down the proximity based death effects that only affect melee. - Increase the radius of 'close range.' - Reduce the cooldown time for Vengeance and Riposte (loving the current proc rate). and most importantly - Improve melee targeting at close range so it is easier to stay on target against monsters. |

Melee gems just got reasonable buffs. Reave now has +2 stages and 100% conversion. General's Cry-Blade Flurry for 5% more damage per stage and and extra Mirage. Power Charge Flicker, Dual Strike, Double Strike and so many others got buffs.
There were indeed many nerfs though; Alt Assassin's mark and Alt Blood rage being deleted was a bad blow. They gave us Penance mark to compensate, though took away arguably one of, if not the most common ways to get frenzy and power charges against bosses with no extra gem slots, etc. This is a big hit to be sure. Look into just how much an ashes of the stars will buff melee now. You don't need the mana reservation. I managed to snag one and with some changes my build got a 37% more damage buff from 3.22 using my old amulet, to 3.23 with an ashes. I'm struggling to come up with new goals to keep me playing this game. Last edited by hmcg020 on Dec 12, 2023, 2:56:18 PM

" General's Cry has a 4 Second CD which PoB does not account for.... Reave? Reave can barely do 2M without spending 40 Divine. Just stop with these absurd faux arguments. If all you own is 2 pennies and I give you $4 I just gave you a 2000% increase in your wealth, while I gave the guy that already has $10 another $10. Then you guys will sit here and say OMG, you just got a 2000% buff stop your whining. While the caster's also got buffs, but they got better buffs. If you've been paying attention it's was the caster skills that everyone has been saying got the mega huge buffs. No one is talking about a 10M melee build for under 10 Divine. The boot's alone coast what 6 Divine... If you look at almost every Transfigured melee gem ya they got a buff but also a poison pill in nearly every single one of them. Leap Slam for example, nice damage buff, but the range is about 1.5 meters and I have that jump animation to deal with, so even though the damage is not bad, the pause in the animation makes it do less damage. I can basically run faster than you can jump. All of them have really bad negatives to skill gems that are already dumpster fire tier for play and damage. Like that 40% attack speed on Lacerate of Butchering. You got to be kidding me. Ya I'm sure someone with 5 mirrors of investment is going to make that build do massive damage, but it also is going to take 5 mirrors and then you guys will say, BUT look at his damage while leaving out he spent more currency than most players will ever earn in their life time to make that build work. Fixing melee I think first comes down to weapon availability and cost.
There are so many more good range and caster unique weapons out there that are cheap in comparison to melee. Sinvicta's is basically the only decent low tier melee weapon and it's only good for BoneZone. Bleed needs a Ensnaring Arrow type of Support Gem, Ascendancy, or Jewel ETC. Aisling slams are very costly for melee and mandatory for an Endgame weapon. Getting Spell Suppression for melee is very hard, while getting spell suppression and 80K Armor is easy for Casters. There is no easy Spell Suppression Aura Gem, We don't have a node that you can turn int* (correction) into Spell Suppression, and we don't have easy to get Armor or Flasks that can give us up to 75% Spell Suppression for nearly no investment like a caster can do for Armour or Evasion. Changing Tags or at least stop putting Melee and Phys damage tags on Spell and Bow Gems. Melee does not have a single true Melee DoT Skill gem. All Melee or Physical DoT damage is spell based. How about give Chieftain back it's melee damage Ascendancy nodes? Or how about stop giving casters access to every single advantage that could possibly give melee an edge? Why do buffs for melee have to also be a buff for casters, yet caster buffs are not buffs for melee? There, those are just a few things out of many. Melee is fine. Plenty of good skills to use. Infernal Blow is not one of them.

" My General's cry has 1.8 second CD. I don't know exactly how PoB calculates its damage, though it's significantly less inflated than it was a 2 years back. I think it's much more realistic now. Reave gave us conversion and additional stacks for free. Now we can double dip and get more aoe. " Immediately followed with " The lack of self-awareness is strong with this one. I don't see a poison pill in almost every single transfigured gem. I even listed several that were buffed and I'm excited about melee again. I'm absolutely going to make a Reave build. Everyone in the community knows and cannot argue that melee is significantly more expensive than any non-melee build. You'd think that with supply being greater than the demand - only 10% of the player base - it would be the other way round. It's not though and so yes, melee will always cost much, much more, to take more damage, deal less damage, with less range, clear speed and have a higher difficulty bracket at all times. These new gems are a breath of fresh air though. Cyclone of Tumult has MUCH more dps and aoe than regular cyclone now. You need something to avoid slowing movement speed though. New That Which Was Taken jewel or Stampede, etc bypasses it. I'm struggling to come up with new goals to keep me playing this game. Last edited by hmcg020 on Dec 12, 2023, 7:19:16 PM
