Path of exile 2 - Concerns about locked archetypes
Hey
After watching the mercenary announcement. I could not help getting the feeling that classes are locked to certain archetypes. I am aware they said in poe 2 you can mix and match as you want. But if the ascendency classes are locked to certain types of weapons. It is limited what you can do. I did like to hear what people think. And if there are any information that could suggest otherwise. Last bumped on Dec 5, 2023, 6:48:28 AM

PoE 2 will be way more limited compared to PoE 1 to make its simpler and more appealing to new people who dont want to make PHD before they can make a build.

" This is a mistake. I hope they don't go down the road of "appealing to the lowest common denominator" that most big studios do today. This results in soulless games with little replay value. Yeah you might attract more "casuals", who will spend money to purchase your game, but this is not PoE's money making model. PoE is about returning players who invest money every league, and for these players to return there needs to be a level of depth and complexity to the game. I would say the insane variety and complexity of the builds are one of the main selling points of the game, and what keeps hardcore fans coming back and spending more money. When GGG first announced that PoE 2 was going to be an expansion, and not a new game, I was the first one to say that was a wrong decision. And I was glad to hear they changed their minds later on. I pray they will change their minds on this as well.
They are definitely making it sound like each class is locked to a specific playstyle. A lot of things they are doing with PoE2 seem to be attempts to directly compete with D4, including that sort of simplification of the class system in an effort to branch out to more "mainstream" players. Which developers always assume means "dumb people incapable of thought or planning."

Good grief. I hope they don't.
Personally, I think that's a huge step backwards, but now you mention it, all that guff about making classes play differently sounds very much like the very common, "you play how we tell you" crap the likes of D4 has. Last edited by Ketherina on Dec 4, 2023, 11:28:01 AM

They did also say that you could play warrior with crossbows if you want to

lol have mercy we have D4 for that giga casual type
PhD? If people would spend 10-30min of actually trying to learn the beauty of this game... It's always shocking to me that people do not want to learn, they just want everything handed to them with cringe tutorials "press SPACE to jump" LOL |

" they need that nice nice $$$$$ from casuals
I don't think it's a huge deal; big disclaimer however... I think POE2 looks terrible. Hope I'm wrong, but it's looked absolutely trash since I've seen the gameplay.
Why archetype locking isn't a huge deal: People generally have an idea of what they want to play, and make the "best" ascendancy/class for it. GENERALLY SPEAKING, people don't repurpose characters, they just make new ones. There is a reason you don't see Pathfinder RF characters, or Duelist Minion builds... The reality is there is already archetype "locking" in POE1, it just isn't hard coded. POE2 is just giving less wiggle room to repurpose a character, resulting in people either waiting til next league to try something new, or remake the character (as most people do anyways). |

Hmm, I mean each archetype in PoE1 has a certain lean. You wouldnt play deadeye without playing a projectile build, or elementalist if you werent going elemental damage/golems, or heiro if you werent going totems/mana shennanigans.
I hope would be that PoE2 is similar. |
