Constant Game Spikes, Can't find a solution
Hello everyone,
I usually do not write in Forums and ask for help but since PoE is my main main game with almost 9k hours played I feel like I have to. For me, this is a problem since a few leagues now but it feels like it is getting worse and worse. I tried everything I can to fix this issue myself, from any possible combination of ingame settings, to different windows & nvidia settings. Nothing works for me. Problem: huge game spikes like 1sec freezes every 3-4 sec. It is playable tho but I just die so often to it that here and there I just alt+f4. Everything stands still for 1-2sec and then everything moves super fast. What do you guys need to investigate and help me? I want to play the game I love but smoothe... #stillinlovewithGGG Last bumped on Feb 22, 2025, 2:44:31 AM

Heyo,
So the first step is to determine whether this is a client-side issue (e.g. 0 FPS) or a connectivity issue (i.e. the problem is server-side, or with your connection to the server). You can toggle on in-game diagnostics with the F1 key. Could you start playing with them on, and then the next time there's a freeze, take a screenshot and show it to us? It's hard for me to do so because the spikes are constantly and sometimes only 0.75sec long but I tried my best:
![]() My System: B550 AORUS ELITE V2 Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core 3,7Ghz 32GB 2133 Mhz DDR4 Samsung SSD 870 QVO 1TB Internet via cable: 250mbit Down; 50mbit Upload Telekom (Germany) Network, never had any problems at all in any other game or homeoffice work. Edit: I just saw on the network only graph that it spikes to 1500 all the time, but it's 100% not my network. Everything is perfectly set up here and works on any other use case like a charm. (the 146 was about to spike to 1500, my regular latency is anything between 10 and 18). I'm playing on Frankfurt and swapping between Milan, Amsterdam and London because I always thought its the server (Germany Frankfurt Server is known to be bad). ![]() ![]() #stillinlovewithGGG Last edited by LouiX#1802 on Apr 11, 2023, 4:00:04 PM

Excellent, thanks!
This appears to point towards a networking issue. The bad news is I've another test to ask for; the good news, this can just run silently in the background while you play, and you can stop it after the game's had a bit of an episode. Please post a WinMTR log. GGG has a guide, here; MTR and Connectivity Issue Primer "VPs are not required to change their posting style. " Thanks. Packet loss creeps in when your traffic passes from Deutsche Telekom AG to Level 3. Unfortunately, in this case there's not a whole lot that can be done until the two companies fix it. That should be fairly quick if it's just a case of them needing to install new hardware, or it could take a while if there's a peering dispute and they're waiting to see who blinks first as customers complain. One workaround would be to use a VPN and hope that you just happen to get routed around the problem. That's not a guarantee - or something the VPN will even attempt to do - but there's a problem with one route, so taking another is likely to avoid it, just by chance. This league I've been playing while using ProtonVPN and it hasn't caused me any issues.
But, realistically, you just want whoever happens to have servers near you. "VPs are not required to change their posting style.
