Just on a very basic logical level, if D4 is amazing, why would players, on average, want to go back to whatever PoE2 is?

same reason they left every other amazing arpg ever made to come here, same reason you are here now posting this in poes forum.

do you think when d4 launches i never see you back here? you think you will go play d4, abandon poe, never come back to these forums or this game? you think you will go live on blizzards d4 forum?

i think in 4 years time me and you are gonna have a convo on these forums, and i want you to remember this moment.
Confusing 'playing POE' for 'playing the PoE forums' is a rookie mistake.

And if you do fuck off, add me on steam and/or discord before you go, DS44.

There's probably an overlap though, I bet more people than you'd think still play a lot on alt accounts. Nothing really ruins your GGG bad forum warrior credentials worse than having challenge numbers next to your name except for having 50 supporter badges next to it.

Haha well that got toxic fast. I'd be happy if we were both in good health, and able to exchange pleasantries & differing opinions in 4 years. That's not the gotcha you think it is.

I mean really, you cannot equate playing PoE (or any game for that matter) to posting / lurking in a forum where I have interacted with people for many years.

In point of fact, I still play PoE. I played a bit last league. I wont be this one, but that's basically the essential format for this game. Play, try, leave, come back.

D4 is more than likely going to be getting a lot of my time, thats true, but as I've said before, it's not a binary choice. And the notion that I shouldnt be following or conversing with Exiles post D4 launch is... frankly it's not a well thought out take.

A sugar and rainbows forum where everyone loves PoE is not the Utopia you may think you want. Challenging the Devs has been good for the game. They didn't always have this stubbornness and ego, but I do honestly believe they are good and talented folks over there. I think they strayed too far, outsourced to much, and get blinded by small segments of vocal players, but overall you cant argue with the results over the decade. Its a good story (minus the Megacorp Buyout)

There's also a difference between giving actual feedback instead of "poe is dead, diablo4 is the best thing ever"
And just because I think that the people who are always saying that "poe is dead" doesn't mean I want the forums to be all "sugar and rainbows"
You will never eliminate trolls, or be able to stop people from edgy posts regardless of their intentions. That isnt exclusive to PoE. Welcome to the internet.

I personally haven't made a "PoE is Dead" thread or anything like that. I've been vocally critical, sure, often snarky and cynical, yes, but there are always reasons why, and like it or not, I explain. People may not agree, which is expected, but I'm not some mindless troll which are typically easy to spot (Knights too on the opposite end of the spectrum)

That said, I do think some people get way too defensive about PoE at times, to their own detriment if you ask me. Some act like there are no good games out there but this one, Blizzard is evil, D3 is for casual scrubs, LA is P2W trash, and so on. I'm not sure how that is helpful or fosters anything positive for PoE. Gamers game, and almost all with multiple titles and genres.

If a league is bad, or you think development direction isnt going the right direction, you should be able to say something without toxic ramifications, or this notion that you should take your ball and just go home.

In the end I'm not going to be strong-armed by randos on the PoE forums that's for fucking sure! If I do leave that will my call (unless I get modded out, which, yeah possible lol), and I wont be making a "Why I'm Quitting PoE" post.

oh im not saying you shouldnt, im saying you will be doing it, and you will play poe2, and it will be awesome and youll enjoy it. and there will be problems with it, the cracks will show, people will play other games.

ive played 15k+ hours of poe, ive also played virtually every diablo 3 season... and ive still played basically every other arpg thats been made in the last 10 years these 2 games have been around. i believe ive played as much diablo 3 as its content can really justify, same with poe and every other arpg, and ive still had plenty of free time for other things.

if diablo 4 is the greatest thing we can hope it will be itll settle into a rhythm of being played for 3 weeks at the start of its seasons and then there will be a 3 month gap, just like poe. what do you do in that 3 months?

its gonna take 6 months to settle into that tho, people will play the game non stop at first just like we did with poe. thats the danger time, thats a moment where you dont want ur new poe2 to release and have to compete with it. you want to wait for the honeymoon to be over and that season rhythm to kick in before u release poe2.
