You could have responded to my argument by answering why you should you be able to see more than the average player, especially in lieu of zoom hacks being bannable. If it's okay to have an advantage through superior hardware and software, why do you think GGG has a hardline stance on your field of view?

Not directed at me but why wouldn't GGG just hard cap the performance of the game to work the same on a toaster versus a 5k USD PC?

Yeah cap CPU, GPU, NIC performance while you're at it. Make Windows into a game console emulator to be sure absolutely nobody has an "unfair advantage"

Purism is stupid. Really though change the game however you want. We don't play it anymore so it's w/e lol

If you have to rely on hyperbole to make a statement and take everything to its most extreme form, you are not arguing in good faith. This kind of posturing really just makes my case

There are no coherent arguments that can be made for the inclusion of black bars

It's telling that when the obvious flaws in your logic are exposed, you simply say "you're arguing in bad faith" and go silent. I'm not sure your posts prove the point you think they're proving.

The underlying mechanism of reductio ad absurdum is a legitimate one as long as the logical extreme stays consistent with with the proposition. I hope the irony isn't lost on you when you say I simply don't accept your arguments while you dismiss anything without engaging in a factual, serious manner. It's an ill-mannered approach to debating.

Let me show you:

This is an absurd statement, because everyone has this hardware at their ready while not everyone has widescreen monitors. It is not consistent with my argument.

Roughly 59% of PC gamers play on 1920x1080, another 19% play on 2560x1440. You can check these numbers yourself Steam Hardware Survey. You can check some other numbers for comparison, but generally speaking it doesn't matter whether you have a RTX2080ti or an RTX3060 despite fluctuations between FPS.

Both having the same field of view means neither can preemptively dodge an attack from offscreen, while someone with a widescreen monitor would see it earlier. And that's just one example off the cuff.

If you were actually interested in finding common ground, there are obvious compromises between your proposition of removing black bars from widescreen resolutions and my concern with fairness such as Fog of War which'd extend the game but provide no advantage. But you seem far more interested in cheap dunks and engrossing yourself in drama

Guys, we added QoL by removing ultrawide support. Now when you sit there in front of your 49-Inch $1000 monitor you paid for exclusively to play our game, instead, you get to watch black borders around the game. If you think this is not QoL, you're just looking at it wrong. Black borders around the game are more appealing and it has nothing to do with us not wanting the game resources to render additional information AND it's too much of a gameplay advantage for you to actually see more of your screen when all of it is already covered with effects that can't allow you to see what's happening properly. You're welcome.

🔷🔶🔰🌀✨Make trade like the Grand Exchange from RuneScape✨🌀🔰🔶🔷

Let us zoom out more. Bring back 32:9, Heist Alt Quality Gems, Gear Enchanting, Prophecy, Metamorph & Crucible. Stop removing content from the game. Stop nerfing everything. Stop making the game slow

Instead, you say the argument is invalid and move on. Not only is it lazy, it's arrogant. Not a great look, and certainly not advocating well to your proposal.

While I do understand your point about seeing more and it being an advantage, I think it's irrelevant. First because PoE is mostly a PvE non directly competitive game. So even if 32/9 gives an edge (something that is not as obvious as you suggest), it does not really matter in my opinion. It would be fine if ultrawide is just diabled in direct competitive environnement such as races/gaunlets and PvP.

Second point is that more information does not just mean useful/meaningful information. I had the opportunity to play one league with a 32/9 screen, prior to the removal of the feature(it was sentinel if I recall correctly)... And I really think that most players (myself included) have a better time in 21/9 from a sole "performance" standpoint. 32/9 gives you a lot of irrelevant effects and movements at the edge of your FOV, thus diverting you from what matters at the center of the screen. I play on two differents setup, the second one being a regular 16/9 smaller screen, and it was much easier to process what's going on because all the relevant infos/effects is at the center of the screen.

Still, it was really enjoyable just for the immersion, being surrounded by PoE feels great, even if it meant dying more. That's a trade that I'm willing to do.

Seeing things earlier was just one example of how having a bigger field of view is an obvious advantage over a regular monitor. There are many more; e.g. just the past season with the Wildwood and wisps being visible from further away.

While it is true that you fight monsters and not players in maps, an economy still pits player versus player. Running the same juiced maps but having higher wisps on average yields more drops -> that's an unfair advantage.

I just gave that one example to show how OP could win more people over to his side, but he chooses indignation over compromise.

I acknowledge that black bars aren't nice to look at and I already said that something like a Fog of War is okay as long as it doesn't give an advantage
