Normally I would agree, GGGs track record shows they get it right eventually.

The problem is we aren't talking about a bad league mechanic, people upset a favorite like harvest was gutted, that they lowered support gem damage a little too much. Or a flask rework falling short.


Base monster difficulty is an extremely difficult number to tweak. 8 years of league content was built around the old affix pool and monster stats.

While vanilla rares may have been too easy, league content was built around them to still provide challenging encounters for players. Endgame content added enough multipliers to make those monsters to make them scary. In some cases that meant nearly 96% damage reductions in systems like deep delirium or several hundred percent increases in damage and health.


Lets say an old monster had an "arbitrary difficulty" number of 10, maybe being a red beast gave it a 2.5x increase multiplier. And having essence buffs gave it an extra +15 and 2x more ontop of that. This monster is many times more powerful than a vanilla rare.


Well when you change the base monster to have 150 "arbitrary difficulty", suddenly the vanilla rare is on par difficulty wise with the old overlapping league mechanic rare. And when you introduce league mechanics, they scale wildly above where they should be relative to the normal difficulty curve at that point in your progression.

This isn't just a simple numbers tweak, adjust some mod values kind of fix.

Every single league mechanic requires a complete overhaul to make it compatible with the new modpool and base monster stats. This should never have been something tacked on to a new league. They aren't capable of rebalancing it all in a reasonable amount of time.

It either had to be designed with those mechanics in mind (It clearly was not) or insulated so that vanilla rares got the majority if the buff while league affected monsters were only tweaked slightly.

Right now the majority of past league content is scaling way out of control, to the point where the best players in the game, who have the knowledge and experience to take on the hardest challenges ever created are just skipping it because it isn't worth the trouble.

Reworking every league mechanic to work with this is an undertaking on the scale of what they are aiming to do with PoE 2. Years of development time. Thats why players are freaking out.

It's not really a league cosplay because it's a generic duelist. But again, he wasn't even featured in the announcement video, so probably the recent multiple bans for his cooked takes and China salutes it's the reason. He's in process of reforming but he's currently brand risk and it's normal that companies don't want to be associated with him right now. We'll see in the future.
