why not use LESS DURATION gem?

and with no secret jewel, we have around 1k-1,k ward
which means, if we want to stay safe, we use 2x skeletons *420 = 840 dmg?
or we use 3x skeletons * 350 dmg = 1050, barely for no dmg?

its not required to use less duration, why waste gem socket.

yes you want 840 from rings and rest from FR
if you get divergent cwdt, you can even stay at 840 ward exactly
this way you can sacrifice boots/gloves and use a non-ward item
Without divergent cwdt, you will want 1000 from FR, because 2560 from rings.
There is mobs cancelling life recoup for 20-30sec, seems to be an massive invisible aura, huge mapping nerf

so max 1300 ward now seems kinda iffy, didnt see they removed survival secrets, guess I'll pass, too bad I bought all the items xD

Less duration is only required if you want to go the 0.198 cooldown route.

And also Heartbound Loop deals damage separately. Meaning with "only" 420 Ward you won't die even if you have a billion skeletons dying all at once.
You don't need more than 420 wards to survive your skeletons.

Forbidden Rite is one of two reasons you want as much Ward as possible.
The other reason is mob damage you too so more Ward is better :D.

Without Survival Secret, Ward can be slightly increased using another magic Iron Flask with "Increased Effect" and "Increased Ward during Effect" modifiers. In my case, I am getting an extra 200-250ish. Can be even more if you enchant it with "70% increased effect" but you will have to manually and regularly reuse the flask which is what I am doing with my Dying Sun, because 3 extra projectiles is better than 1 (with Survival) and it refills almost instantly.

I see how damage is done, but I am not seeing what type of defense this build has (I might be missing it).

Other than having ward up (stopping some damage), what other protections does this build have (as -60 chaos makes most chaos damage almost instant kill if not careful).

ward is a good defense, even 1200 ward is great, its permanent.
phys is the weakness

chaos not really, you regen very fast.

also freeze is an excellent defense.
