A Sacred Orb goes for like 80 Chaos Orbs. For something that is multiple times rarer than an Exalted Orb, it in my opinion an indicator that people doesn't value a Sacred Orb as much.

Yep that was my initial point. It seemed weird to have an item that is extremely rare and at the same time you need a very high quantity off of to get the desired outcome.

As an age old SSF player I exclusively think practically and the Sacred Orb doesn't seem to be practical and efficient at all but I learned that there is a nuance in trade league where this item in its current form fits in and thats cool with me.

If I ever manage to find one I'll keep it as a trophy I guess.
It is because they make such a small difference and that so many are needed for a perfect roll that they need to be rare to be worth anything.

Like someone else said earlier; if they were significantly more common, getting a perfect roll would be a chore rather than a potentially meaningful upgrade.
I've found 2 this league. One early on, another today when doing 40% beyond (which has net me about a dozen raw exalts, so if it's really 3x the rarity then I've gotten fewer than expected).

I bought ~4 early on in the league when I found a 2 t1 vaal regalia but crap base percentage. I figured the ~60 ES was worth ~120 chaos orbs at the time.

it fixes the drop vs craft problem.


they are aware of an issue where high levels players real endgame level gear is almost all crafted. people complain its a endgame grind gear looting game where they feel like the chance of looting their endgame gear is essentially 0.

by introducing this variance in base rolls (before they added sacred orbs to the idea) you have a situation where if you are attempting to craft that real endgame bis gear you do it on the perfect base. the gear that drops now has a 1 in 20 chance of being on a perfect rolled base, so your chances of being able to loot that super endgame bis gear just went from 1 in a million to 1 in 20 million, but your craft didnt change at all because instead of buying an ilvl86 base you buy an ilvl86 perfect defence roll base. so the mechanic actively made a bad situation they want to fix even worse regarding looting vs crafting as a means of getting the bis final form endgame gear.

the only option is to add an orb that means you can potentially 'fix' a looted rare item, to bring it back down from a 1 in 20 million drop to a 1 in a million drop. it will almost never be used for this because by its nature getting that 1 in a million drop almost never happens, but its about potential within the system rather than the day to day activity of regular endgame players. same as a mirror drop, for almost all individual players it never happens, but on a large scale it technically sometimes happens and that is arguably important to the larger picture of the game.








tbh the entire thing is just unnecessary bloat, none of this should exist imo. i dont see that complicating the item situation with all these factors really pays off in any meaningful way in terms of making the item system more interesting.


ive also found 2 sacred orbs in a time frame where ive found dozens of exalts. early last league i bought about 40 sacred orbs for 2-4 chaos each, they were worth 4 exalts a pop at the time in standard theyre now down to 2.5ex each in standard and up to 85c in league so i guess the price gap there is just closing as it tends to do towards the end of leagues.

It's just something to min/max. I know it was very controversial when it was released, but I think it's fine. It makes bases more interesting. They could probably do something similar with weapons. Some people will not like that idea, it's probably a bit too important to have good rolls on the weapon values.

They've done something similar this league with changes to above 20 qual items needing natural drops and not corruptions. It's just another layer of RNG, some people will not like it. I think the quality changes this league are pretty good, although the above 20 qual drops are a bit too rare I think, if ground loot is going to be the only way to get them. Should be rare, but not this rare to find them. It's a hard balance, I think they don't want it to feel mandatory to have 30% qual.

It is a design mistake.


They add yet more basetype in this patch to worse the problem

The game has long overdue to have less basetype

They should make way less basetype but at the same time the defence roll way way more horrible, like 1 to 2000, and lastly make this orb drop way more common

Only since this league do Sacred Orbs have a use. Changes to quality have drastically increased the difference between a 0% base armor and a 100% base armor. This can amount to potentially 100s or 1000s of ehp if we are talking about ES.

That said....they were 100% "useless" prior to this quality change. The minimal benefit they provided did not match their absurd rarity.

In a hindsight world, they would have released the Sacred Orb for the first time THIS league when quality was changed.
