Controller Support Beta

As a HC Player on PS4, I would love for the PS Controller to work and currently it will not work unless I hold the PS button literally the entire time, and then the bindings are really out off like the R1 button is the "X", it's taking screenshots when I pressed R2 or L2.

It also says connect a controller and press "A". Is this designed specifically for Xbox controllers? I tried reconnecting with different USB cables, different USB ports (2.0 and 3.0), 3 different PS4 controllers and all experiences the exact same type of key binding issues, and not even being recognized unless I HELD the PS Button. I also tried using the bubble'd auto detect both on and off to see if it made a different, before and after reclosing the game entirely.

I started on PC back when there were 3 acts, left for like a number of years due to bad PC, game came to PlayStation and been playing there ever since. Now I have a PC that can handle PoE just fine, but I have wrist issues so I'd rather play with a controller if possible.

The post says "Connect 'a game' controller, go to input..." does that mean a PC based game controller, if not an Xbox?

I also have a Steam account that I play on PC with when not using the PS4. Wish I could get my tabs I've purchased on console just transferred to PC at this point and never look back keyboard or not, invested too much in the console version apparently as there's so few players in HC trade league markets.

Any updates from GGG here, or requests for further testing, would be great.

Windows 10 Home edition Intel based processor, not sure if that matters I can provide other details.

Niceee, I love POE but I've become a very lazy gamer, I prefer the controller.

-- One question: is this coming to macOS too?

Sorry, I can't read, I see it's not, ETA on macOS support please?

Hi there. I've been testing the controller support for a few days now, here's my report.

1. First, I tried with a generic controller, the game won't recognise it at all. Then I tried with the Xinput interface (the same way I do with other PC games that only accept Xinput controllers) but nothing changed. Lastly I tried enabling the Steam controller override and... nothing. I decided to move on to a PS3 controller but the results were the same. I kept looking for workarounds until I found this little program called "DsHidMini Control" that basically turned my PS3 controller a Xbox controller. It finally worked!

2. About the interface. What a surprise! It works... Some of the new positionings I found a bit strange. It can be a matter of getting used to it. But then again, it's in Beta so, I'm not making a big case here.

3. My biggest complaint is: I'm using a PS3 controller, yet the button's layout is Xbox. There should be a layout for PS controllers and also for Switch controllers (I know they aren't natively supported yet, but I think they will be, right? If not, it would be awesome to have these layouts available).

***Edit***
I have found the gem levelling toggle. You can set it for each socketed gem individually, so please disconsider everything in point 4, thanks.

4. Gem levelling. I may have missed this, but I've looked into the settings and could not find an option for disable gem auto level up. Think of a build that needs a gem to stay in a certain level because of mana reservation. Skills like Precision, Clarity, etc. Gem levelling has to be manual, not automated. Just add an option in the settings, and make it for Mouse & Keyboard as well.

5. The controller worked as intended. The bindings were correct, no input lag. There were few moments of unresponsive behavior, like picking up an item from the ground, but nothing game breaking. Again, Beta. In my opinion, a welcome addition and a nice way to play the game in a TV.

Well. This post certainly died fast and/or didn't garner much attention or feedback. Sigh
Would love some kinda feedback to this post, and others to be honest as they outline some other questions and feedback.
I've been playing with the PS4 controller and it's bee working like a charm.

You need to run DS4 windows after the controller has been connected then run the game.

Is there a way to map skill to movement in xbox controller? Used to guard skills being activated by movement. Finding it difficult to manually trigger them.

I am stuck with this too! I bind instant cast enduring cry to my movement skill and it works with keyboard/mouse but not on controller! Any help would be appreciated!
Anyone have a recommendation on how to make this work with the PS5 / DualSense controller?

Much like everyone else without an XBOX controller, this doesnt work with the controller I have. It works with Steam, Hades, WH40K Inquisitor, etc... just not PoE.

I dont have a desk, or any flat surface other than the floor to work with so I'm kind of limited in my options.

*edit

If you go install DS4Windows, it works. Just make sure you install the DESKTOP version of the .NET 5.0 framework. The first option is for the console version of the .NET framework and it doesnt work with DS4.

Enjoying it so far, except for the inability to map guard skills to movement which is severely limiting survivability options for any build you choose. Sadly we have to settle for a sub-optimal build because this feature is not available in controller. For e.g. it is a pain to play DOT builds because I cannot map vortex to movement. Loosing the option to have molten shell/steelskin cycle really frees up gameplay. Hope this handicap of using controller is sorted soon.
