Lost Ark? Weeaboo fanservice title?
Eh I can tell the difference. Ive been a weeb for decades longer than the word existed. I just accept that weeaboo and koreaboo are to most non weebs identical. And it would be silly to assume that just because the term 'waifu' is Japanese that it doesn't have a Korean counterpart.
Look, call it an ARPG if you want. But if you expect it to behave like a typical ARPG per the Diablo mould you will be in for a huge shock. It looks like an ARPG. It plays like one. But its entire framework is that of a busywork MMO. And that's fine. Clearly it is a very popular model. But dude I tired of arguing MMO vs ARPG way back in the Everquest/D1 days. It was ointless then and it's pointless now. Lost Ark is both, though best or worst of each is entirely subjective. Also, I have just finished my bowel movement and am done with the phone. :) https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

" Weeaboo is a mostly derogatory slang term for a Western person who is obsessed with Japanese culture. *cough* Especially for people who say they love Japanese culture and know everything about it when they really don’t. A person who doesn’t respect culture and limiting their own view on it, obsess and pretend to know-it-all. I find the normalization of the derogatory term very puzzling. 'Waifu' ワイフ isn't a Japanese word in a sense, it is an English loanword. "Waifu" in Japanese has the same meaning as a real wife. The English use of "waifu" is a play on the Japanese word. The idea of a fictional female characters that they love and would marry. Waifu is a joke word. Japanese don't call their actual wife waifu. The most common words used to refer to one’s wife were yome(嫁), okusan(奥さん), and tsuma(妻). If you see someone saying "she is my wife" and someone saying "she is my waifu," you'd be certain that they are saying different things. Japanese might think such a word is cringe-worthy or offensive. The English word 'Waifu' probably doesn't have a Korean counterpart. I hope not... |

Eh I like to use weeb in a 'taking back' sense. It's too convenient a term that unlike certain other 'take it back' terms remains gibberish to outsiders. The term that Weeaboo replaced was after all far more obviously racist and derogatory.
As for korean counterpart DS44: No idea. just said I wouldn't assume it doesnt exist, although maybe all that waifu collecting energy is taken up by Kpop stanning. *shrug* ...gosh I had no idea the actual word for wife in Japanese wasn't waifu. I mean I totally thought it's the word they used back during the Heian period... Im so done here. :) https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

" Youre wrong in my mind. The Classes are done very well and its one of the biggest pros for LA. Gameplay is also very fun and thats probably why so many try it out. Que stuff for EU is fixed since a few days and that also just showed the overwhelming interest on this game. Dont think GGG would have done better, they finally got a not totally bugged launch done without crashs and 30k ques on and on, true, but with a playerpeak of 150k~! Thats the amount of EU players waiting in que for LA alone on the first days. And its a ARPG, period. What u say sounds like its doing marketing fraud by saying its ARPG while being not, dont even dare! THe only marketing fraud here is POE saying it has multiplayer and trading, thats a really wrong description. Its a level up in party game (maybe), to split up to solo mapping and sometimes trying to buy some shit on a by GGG slowed trading website, wasting hours and hours just to find out its already been sold or other bs. And if you like anyone now come up with its p2w: IM 100% willed to play a game where some guys pay2 be faster in endgame, because i DONT FUCKING CARE. While i am not willed to get my time stolen by GGG on PURPOSE because with too fast or easy trading leagues burn out even faster in their minds. Thats not my fault, not the fault of my time its a fault in their game design and dev cycle. cheers
" I agree, its got a few arpg elements, but for the most part its a mmo. Combat is clunky like mmo's with cooldowns. I really enjoy it but the fights arent very fun, the combat is. Its like malachai with less places to stand on most fights. Going to get all the arks (im around 1000 ilvl now), but dont see it as something ill play long term due to the fights (they arent fun).
" Id give it to at least lvl 25-30 to make your judgement. Its mostly fetching up til then
" That's part of the problem, I don't have the patience for that shit. You figure developers would have moved away from fetch quest slop, because that's one of the top things people criticize on games with fetch quests, and they're criticized because it's not creative and more importantly it's not fun. And I never hear anyone say they like fetch quests, give m0ar pl0x who's being serious, and not trolling. I'm not a big MMORPG person, never was, but the only one I even liked playing was City of Heroes/Villains. No fetch quests, instead every zone had its own story arch, or you could pull random instanced quests from the radio. And zoom zoom around the maps with super speed, super jump, flight, etc. I remember playing vanilla WoW, and that game was a slough, your character moved at the pace of a thyroid deficient boomer with hip issues, and didn't get a mount that allows you to move as fast as a too fat to walk boomer in an electric grocery store cart until level 40. I was like fuck this shit, and someone said City of Heroes was the game I was looking for, and they were right. Last edited by MrSmiley21 on Mar 2, 2022, 9:40:32 PM

I suffered through the leveling, and I do mean suffered... they really should just surgically remove their leveling quest line from the first town to just before the Castle siege that happens around level 25 where it gets somewhat better. They need to remove about 75% of the NPC's and dialog and put about 75% more action in between the NPC's that are left. Its just a bad click fest and fed ex quest mess.
On the other hand the game becomes almost/practically "open world" at 50+ If you can choke down the leveling the combat is bonkers good, and the signaling and time to live will make you wish POE could compete with it. Or even get into the same league. Seriously combat is just slick as snot. If you're anything like me you'll end up kinda pissed that such fun is wrapped up in a silly/anime art direction. I'm literally jealous that POE doesn't have combat this good. Once you find a class and a set of skills you like (this is important or it'll feel bad). The boss fights feel more fair and far more tactical and engaging than POE's. Say what you will about the silly art direction and victoria's secret armor. The MMO junk and the actually not all that bad cash shop (the armor MTX's are almost half the price of POE's); But the time to live in POE is complete dogshit, contrasting to Lost Ark. The Signaling and outplay in POE is also really bad and you realize just how bad when you play a game thats so much better tuned. Even movement skills on longer cooldowns still manage to feel slick and responsive compared to POE's "I got stuck on a pebble" movement. Oh also Melee works in LA... whats it been 8 years now and GGG's only ever managed to make Melee feel and perform worse? The core gameplay loop of POE has always been its biggest weakness. Generic impact-less combat, with no pacing, no need to be tactical ever, and "balance by not even trying to balance" massive RNG damage spikes that Chris thinks is actually a good design feature instead of the failing of design that it actually is. Or how about massive uncapped cluster-f's of movement speed, attack speed and screen spam? POE never even managed to have as good a combat loop as D2 (which was really obvious when D2R hit) and Diablo 3 had POE soundly beaten for the actual feel of fighting, sadly I've got little hope that GGG will ever compete with LA's if they can't even equal D2's or D3's. They managed to beat D3 with the 3 month content cycle, and better grind (not shooting their game in the head with set bonus itemization and overly generous drop rates of D3) while having a really bland core loop, terrible time to live and signaling... POE wont out content LA, and they would probably have to scratch build a new combat engine to compete at all in the core gameplay. Also its an MMO so its always going to have more non combat stuff to do (which makes it far more family friendly, my kids are all playing LA and none of them give two shits about POE) If gameplay is king for you and you can whistle past the lack of "grim dark" you might want to try it.
