Watched the gameplay footage.

It is now more of an open world experience similar like the Elder Scrolls games and to some extent the Gothic Series with some MP features like coop, duels and the good old invasions.

Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body."

Only usable with Ethanol Flasks

This just looks like a combination of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, all thrown into a high fantasy open world, and I'm totally here for it.
They've said things to make me think it might be good, I'm still mostly scared it's just gonna be another pretty button masher though.

Yeah. Looks like Elder Scrolls Souls with mounts, expanding the old gameplay features to make it an even bigger open world experience.

I like it. I'm not that much of an souls fan (only beat DS2) but the shown footage has everything i like in SP RPG games.

Combining the combat from Dark Souls and Gothic with the open world of Elder Scrolls, with lots of points of interests (dungeons, random mini bosses, events, etc).

World looks far less Sekiro, far more Dark Souls to me.
General consensus so far: enough dungeon content to be Dark Souls 4 tied together by Breath of the Wild style open world majesty = Something really special

I am deeply enjoying the collective delirium of the reviews over this game. I'll grab it tomorrow or something -- it's still not on my MUST HAVE list, because I admittedly have shit taste for the most part -- but there's little doubt going by the write-ups so far that this is a must-play game for anyone who's even passingly enjoyed a Souls-like, and I really, really enjoyed the OG Souls game, Demons Souls (bit late for King's Field I'm afraid).

Coincidentally I picked up a 1tb SSD for the Ps5 a few days ago which meant a LOT more room to DL games I've had sitting in the library. One such was Sekiro. I am so utterly crap at it but the *feel* of that game is such that I actually don't want to be. Flipping about and parrying enemies into a state of OHKO is like Tenchuu x Bushido Blade and I'm there for it. But in the end it's still very much a hard-as-fucking-fuck FromSoftware title.

Elden Ring's mix of fuckoffhuge open world, player agency and familiar elements may very well make it as big a jump forward for over-the-shoulder 'ARPGs' as Demons Souls was. We'll see. I'm wary of critics' hyperbole of course but I don't think I've ever seen them agree on a FromSoftware title -- score-wise, of course Souls games do just fine, but this is the first time I've seen even the notion of 'it's as difficult as you want it to be' in any sort of Souls-like.

I'm glad I resisted the hype but I'm equally glad it genuinely seems worth it.

Damn, it's almost time....

I regulated my hype levels unil I hit pre-download today. Now I'm fucking pumped to come home after work tonight.

Only thing I'm worried... how am I supposed to grind my daily content in LA and resist on just playing Elden Ring :D
Guess it's a good thing that 2 weeks of vacation are on the horizon.

I played it from midnight launch to 5am this morning. I woke up wanting to play more.

It's as good as everyone says. The overworld is fucking gorgeous and perfect for explorers and casual grinders like me. Then, when I am ready, I can tackle one of the many traditional style Souls experiences in a cave near my favourite grinding spot. I've barely acknowledged thr main story path, which is pointing me towards a very Demons Souls style start...

I won't say any more to avoid basic spoilers but in those 5 hours Elden Ring constantly surprised me in big and little ways.

I think this game is a masterpiece.

Thankfully I am just doing very brief dailies in XIV because we've hit a MSQ duty (multiplayer) pause point. No rush there.

Wow, down almost 100k players in a day!

Hey, you don't get to say that about a game that has absolutely no chance of dying in a hurry very often.

670k concurrency as a huge downward trend for 'mixed' reviews mostly focusing on performance is an interesting combination of facts.
