3.17 TOXIC RAIN CHAMPION - Fast, Tanky, Deadly! - League-Start to End-Game

This build is just amazing. At leaguestart i had some mana issues and some kind of clunky feeling but now with some currency and more experience the build feels super smooth.

At first i thought this build would be terrible at bossing. But i was wrong xD
I did Sirus A9, Shaper + Elder and Uber Elder with this build more or less effortless. I even juiced up my maven invitations to the max. (except the feared^^)

T16s and juiced maps are a walk in the park.

Now i am working on Simulacrum and mega juiced nem 3 maps.

On nem 3 maps i get oneshotted out of nowhere. Sometimes this happens 3-4 times a map. And while looting this maps often takes 2-3 portals i sometimes run out of them...

Simulacrum is a different story. Bosses on wave 23+ just wont die and kill me xD

After testing rare chest with Ghost Dance on the tree i always come back
to Queen of the forest and devouring diadem :-)

Did anyone do sim 30 with this build and has some advice?

*edit* saving for a headhunter right now to run even more juice on nem 3 maps.

Toxic Rain Champion is all the rage this league due to the popular videos of Lightee and Zizaran.

I created Lightee's build in Standard and made some tweaks to make it more relevant to most players as Lightee focuses on HC. I have made it have more DPS while still keeping great defence which would be better for most softcore players.

Here is an end-game video for those working towards it:

Pro's and Con's

Pro's
- TANKY! This built can face-tank most content in the game.
- FAST! Movespeed is fantastic... +200% when all things active!
- DEADLY! T16's just MELT, Deathless Sirus A9, Maven, Formed, Twisted, Feared.
- ALL CONTENT, ALL MODS! A true "Alch and go"... can do all map mods.

Con's
- Lots of balancing of gear - resistances, strength, intelligence, life, DOT, mana reduction)... but most builds have this challenge.
- Can be expensive to min-max.
- It's not Tornado Shot.

Gear Overview

Note that this gear can be interchangable with other stuff... see detailed gear section further below.

Gear Detailed

Bow:
Crafted with extra DOT or Attack Speed. Quill rain can be used early game.

Quiver:
DPS quiver with life/res stats, or Maloney's for frenzy charges, culling strike, or vaal haste, or other combo of your choice. I personally enjoy run with Maloney's because I use QOTF chest (no frenzy generation).

For Maloney's, I usually run with Caustic Arrow + Awakened Arrow Nova Support + Frenzy

A couple of other great options are:

Caustic Arrow + Awakened Arrow Nova Support + Chain
Caustic Arrow + Culling Strike + Frenzy
Caustic Arrow + Awakened Arrow Nova Support + Vaal Haste
Frenzy + Culling Strike + Vaal Haste

It all depends on your preference of playstyle.

I swap in Culling Strike for bosses.

Chest:
QOTF for speed, or armour with great stats (life/res), or armour with frenzy on hit, or armour with additional curse and you can run frenzy + curse setup (eg Poachers Mark) in Maloney's quiver.

Helmet:
Devouring Diadem means we can spam our skills without mana issues, and no need for a mana flask (yay). It provides great QOL for the build.

Otherwise a -9% chaos pen helm for DPS, or Viridi's Veil for more defence.

Gloves:
Chaos DOT and craft increased AOE. Or some gloves with DOT and Culling strike/attack speed. Null and Void gloves add a lot of fun if you want to spice things up.

Boots:
Boots will spell suppression to ensure we cap at 100%. Other stats of your choosing.

Amulet:
Chaos DOT, +1 dex or chaos gems, other stats of choosing. Corruption annoint.

Rings:
Life/res. One ring with Curse enemies with despair on hit.

Belt:
Life/res or other stats you need. Headhunter if you want or mageblood.

POB and Masteries

https://pastebin.com/Nutcwnfk

Masteries:
Life: +50 to max life
Life: 10% inc max life / 10% reduced life recovery
Duration: 10% more skill duration
Flask: Life/mana flasks gain 1 charge every 3 seconds
Bow: 20% chance for phasing on kill / 8% inc movement speed while phasing
Bow: 20% increased area of effect while wielding a bow
Reservation: 15% inc mana reservation efficiency of skills
Chaos: 20% inc effect of withered
Spell Suppression: Prevent +2% Suppressed spell damage

Now I see some comments here and there regarding some aspects of toxic rain as a build in general, and I do agree that it will take some extra investment to cover some relatively important layers.

For example, if you are just running like a level 10 Vitality and popping blood rage, you are basically going to struggle with gettign your HP back once you run out of flasks.
Scaling your life regen higher is one way to help with this, but another very strong layer of life recovery is using a Life on Hit while affected by Vitality watchers eye, or a rare ring with 20 life on hit mod.
I would also HIGHLY recommend using a enduring cry. It's really nice way to gain some hp on demand. 2k hp over 1 second + endurance charges.

Another thing people seem to struggle with is mana problems.

There are a few ways to approach helping with that...

You can craft on rings -7 and ammy, and you can increase this to -8 with life mana catalysts.
If you manage to get a ring that was unveiled, it goes up to -10 which can be upgraded to -12 mana cost with catalyst.

You can also get rare jewels with 5% reduced mana cost mod. So if you find a jewel with like %life, mana reduced costs and other damage mods, that's a solid alternative to help lower your mana cost up to zero.

If you are having trouble against damage over time, you could consider investing in ways to prevent that.

Elemental Ailment immunity is possible.(ignite damage) You can get up to 45ish % on boots. You can craft it on certain armor slots. You can get passives on the tree and so on.

Poison, you could use the Soul of Shakari pantheon, which i do sometimes depending on the content im running. I personally use soul of Arakali for Major Pantheon, it really does help.

For bleed and corrupting blood, you could get a corrupted blood immunity jewel. Highly recommend.

The cheap, temporary alternative to some of these ideas, is to just have flasks help with this...

Simul 30s are not a walk in the park with this build. It's doable, but waves 29/30 can be challenging.

Bosses do take a long time. The key I have found is simply positioning of yourself against bosses. Kiting behind them for each of their attacks and swapping sides constantly.

The other tip is to clear everything first then take on the bosses. If you have 2 bosses, try separate them in the arena so you can fight them solo.

Other than that, gear wise I generally swap quicksilver for a Blood of Karui flask and swap HH out for a Stygian Vise.

If Simuls are your thing for farming, Ghost Shroud pathing would be better for that extra defence, but I wouldn't respec if you're only doing Simuls every now and then (unless you prefer it overall).

wiped on simu wave 27 yesterday with ghost shroud.
its just all about the mods you get on bosses i think. on wave 26 i had kosis with 3 additional projectiles

crafted a stygian vise this morning only to realize i have to recraft half of my other gear due to resistances and str requ...
Get life gained on hit and simulacrum gets a lot easier. If you can't get it on a watcher's, both elder and hunter rings rolls +20.
Can someone help me with my build? I've built so that I have near 80% evade and phys reduction, maxed resists, but I feel like I can improve the DPS quite a bit somewhere, just not sure where exactly.

Here's the POB: https://pastebin.com/i4HxSVTt

I have withering step, but it's an active and I don't use it. In the POB I'm at 5.4 mil dmg, but that's with max frenzy charges and 15 withered, but not sure how I'm applying those..

Any help on best bang for my buck to improve? I'd like to start bossing with this build.

First up, fix your flasks. You have 2 life flasks, you need 1 at most. You have 2 rotguts, drop them both. You have a mana flask, but you don't need one due to Devouring Diadem. So you have room for 4 flasks. I'd personally suggest quicksilver, jade, basalt, granite. For suffixes you need ignite, bleed, and reduced shock effect, one each. The last two I'd put into either increased armour, evasion, movespeed, or attack speed. And quality them. 100 glassblower's is 20c, max.

Put your withering step on left mouse click. It'll be up a fair bit that way as it'll auto cast when it's not on cooldown and you move. It's an instant, so it doesn't affect your movement.

You need some method for frenzy charge generation. You're not using Ghost Dance and your energy shield is low enough that the simplest method is a Blood Rage gem. Cast BR at the start of a map, it'll eat your energy shield and provide frenzy charges. It'll need a gem socket, best thing to drop is second wind.

If you want to keep ES as a defensive layer, we either switch the quiver to Maloney's and put frenzy / GMP / culling strike in it, or buy a chest with 10% chance to gain frenzy charge on hit.

Now for damage output. You are lacking three things:
- proper AOE radius
- gem levels
- attack speed

AOE for 5 projectiles needs to be a 1.39 multiplier. Currently you have 1.2, with the .2 coming from the tree. The rest of it comes from TR gem quality (.1) and an amulet or glove craft for increased AOE (.09). In your current setup, you're not getting 5 overlapping pods. You'll be lucky if you are getting 3.

Gem levels... level 21 TR gem. Amulet with +1 dex and +1 chaos gems. Empower 4. Every gem level is a big DPS boost.

Attack speed is the last extra boost, and we fit that wherever we have space left.

A bit of general advice for this build that I keep giving out - we're very starved for gear affixes, so ensuring every affix is at least useful is key, and beyond that, we try to push the tier on every one. Things like increased stun and block recovery on your gloves isn't useful. Mana recovery on belt. Increased rarity on rings, accuracy rating... all those affixes should go, and be replaced by life, stats, resists, or DPS mods. It's possible to run an Agate amulet for the STR/INT boost, and get ONE big roll on str and int each on gear. Then we're only using 2 affixes for stats.

I made a weird weapon, that works very well together with my chest.

Tested a bit around because I was pretty dissapointed by the "Aura grants Damage", but It is really #% PER Aura.

It was in the same range like a 40% increased Chaos Damage Bow, but I guess at the end the better result, since it also boosts Group Damage.

Btw, Brunowa, are you fine ? Have not seen you online in days ;)

As you know yourself, we both are on Standard, and I am pretty far with my Gear right now. But I did Wave 29-30 before Mageblood and with way worse gear then right now.

Life gain on Hit, especially on a nice Watchers Eye is a big plus. The position of the two bosses are also important, if you are to far away from them, they usually go both into Super Sayajin and everyone gets in big trouble.

Blind in Combination with Evade is still strong, and as Grimjack already said, Flasks, if with or without Mageblood are your bread and butter. I also agree with him that we dont have alot of "space" to waste on our gear.
The really good thing is, that there is so much to add to the basic gear, there are no limits to improve. If that is in Standard, or in the League. We both sat for days together and talked about small and big improvements, and every day I encounter something else i could drop currency on.

Does the build feels good on a 1 ex budget ? Maybe not, but compared to all the clickbait builds we usually get, there is so much space to improve, and you feel every step you are upgrading your gear.

TR Champ was my Build in 3.16. If it was in Scourge ( what bored me pretty fast mechanic wise) or trying to go nuts in Standard.
I agree 100%. I league started with Boneshatter, started another as TR Champ, took a couple days off to level an Absolution minion witch, but I'm back to the TR Champ.

I'm playing Scourge league, and I'm having no problems pushing huge juice on T16 maps, pushing scourge stacks to the 300 cap regularly. Now admittedly, I'm a lot of ex into this, and there's still room for improvement - and each upgrade is worthwhile, you can feel how every little addition actually makes the build stronger. Nothing like the typical min/max improvements we get with most builds.

There's an excellent chance I'll push this build all the way to level 100. It's just so damn easy. It's not immortal, like the aura stackers were when they first came out, but it's good enough. The HoAG mana guardian is still a better tank, but it really can't compare in the DPS column. This is as close to the perfect balance of DPS output and tank as I've ever seen, and I've been playing this game for a long... long time.
