Finally added the update poison spiders guide! Actually made this build in June before I went on a long break...

About the Build

Poison Spiders Occultist

ABOUT

Poison Spiders Occultist build focuses on survivability while still having good damage.
It has lots of armour, life and energy shield recovery and block cap without glancing blows.
However, the minions do poison damage, so there is a ramp up time for full DPS.
The build requires many specific items, and will be expensive. And I’ve also included alternative gems, if you want to use the Squire.

Large: 12 points, minion attack speed, 35% increase effect
Small: Forbidden Flame: Unnatural Strength
Small: Forbidden Flesh: Unnatural Strength

Major: Brine King (freeze immunity)
Minor: Ryslatha (refill Writhing jar flask)

GENERAL

Here is an overview of the gear, including gems, links and examples.
Note that the build uses many uniques.



HELMET

For the helmet, use Ancient Skill with Flesh Offering attack speed enchant.

The gems are: Diving Ire, Cast while Channelling and Desecrate.

There’s also unlinked Flame Dash.

Use this gem combination with the Writhing Jar to raise spiders.



BODY

For the body armour, use the Brass Dome to ignore extra damage from critical hits.
*You don't need the corruption!

The gems are: Molten Shell, Determination, Vitality, Tempest Shield, Skitterbots and Enlighten.

The build will still work fine with Enlighten 3.



GLOVES

For the gloves, use Asenath’s Gentle Touch for Temporal Chains.

The gems are: Cyclone, Cast while Channelling, Desecrate, Divergent Flesh Offering.

You don’t need to use Cyclone all the time. Just use it to trigger Flesh Offering and to curse monsters on hit.



BOOTS

For the boots, try to get lots of resistances and movement speed.

The gems are: Malevolence, Increased Area of Effect, Awakened Generosity and Empower.

You can skip Empower if you want to save some currency.



WEAPON

The weapon is Arakaali’s Fang.
And you can ignore the stats because they don’t affect your minions.

The gems are: Multistrike, Awakened Unbound Ailments and Withering Touch.

If you want to save currency, Divergent Multistrike is about 10% less DPS compared to Awakened Multistrike.




SHIELD

For maximum survivability, use Aegis Aurora.
But the Surrender or a rare shield with life recovery are cheaper options.

The gems are: Vaal Skeletons, Feeding Frenzy and Culling Strike.

Use the skeletons against Pinnacle bosses for extra DPS.

You can trade survivability for a big DPS boost with the Squire. Use Awakened Melee Physical Damage, Awakened Void Manipulation and Divergent Minion Damage.

(should be awakened void, but I can't find mine)



AMULET

The amulet should be Aul’s Uprising with Malevolence.

Anoint the amulet with Testudo for extra attack block.



RINGS

You will probably need the rings to get Strength and Dex.
One of the rings must have Despair curse on hit.




BELT

For the belt, use Darkness Enthroned with a Ghastly Eye jewel and Amananu’s Gaze.

Your minions get 20% dot mod thanks to the 75% increased effect from Darkness Enthroned.



RECOMMENDED FLASKS


• Life with bleed immunity
• Basalt with extra armour
• Quicksilver
• Rumi's Concoction
• Writhing Jar

May I ask why you take "Malediction" before "Profane Bloom"? If I take "Profane Bloom" first, will it help with clearspeed?
Kay, completely off topic, but whats your mtx on your character in your last video ? That back attachment with spider like legs seems very fitting but I cant find them anywhere !

Oh, it's just the order in the picture.

If you want to level up with occultist, go Profane Bloom first. Maybe run desecrate + blasphemy so you don't need to self cast curse all the time too.

Thanks for the spiders build! Probably too expensive for me this league, although I played around with it on PoB and I see that without Malevolence and Unnatural Strength the build still does 7.5M dps. Judging from past leagues I played Arakaali's, that should be enough to map effortlessly and clear most content except Ubers and some other hard encounters.

And since these are some of the most expensive items in the build, making it without Aul's and Forbidden jewels at first seems like a viable budget version before you can afford everything, without affecting survivability.

The next change for even lower budget would be the shield and armor (and defence gems) but I don't know how it would work without those. With decent defensive rares, I would guess it could still do mapping just fine because of the damage and the spider playstyle.


There is one thing I don't understand: the build uses Vitality for life regen to make up for life degen, but where is the degen coming from? I can't see it on PoB.
I switched out Replica Siegebreaker and Polaric Devastation for rares. Is that fine? I'm still trying to craft a belt with minion life and a good ring. I need a good shield, jewels and wand too, but even without all that, the build is still cleaning up. Really strong and fun. Thanks for the guide.
Im missing somewhere but in SRS Bomb, why do we have both Molten Shell and Bone armor?
I see Molten Shell is on left click, so it will trigger constantly but Bone armor and it can't be at the same time, right?
