Oh, that is terrible, very disappointing changes by GGG.

Thank you for looking at your skeleton mages build, I picked up the recent Kirac's Vault Pass that had the Shrouded Dead Reckoning jewel cosmetic, I wanted to use it this League with your skeleton mages build, which has been one of my favorite PoE builds.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I replaced it with the new guardian build! But here is the necro version you following. The build doesn't really work in 3.18 because of Ashes drop rate nerf and some other changes to PoE..

But you can actually use the Guardian build and build from witch start instead! You need to change to Bone Offering to get block cap though!

About the build: Melee SRS Necromancer

ABOUT

This build is a direct upgrade from my league starter, where you say goodbye to the minion army and focus on scaling the raging spirits for fast map clearing as well as boss killing power.

The build is easy to play with good survivability and a medium overall cost, depending on the market.


SRS

The Summoned Raging Spirits are aggressive flying minions that attack any nearby enemies and will naturally spread out and hunt for enemies until their duration runs out.

They are also good for bossing, as they do not body block each other like other melee minions, and will completely surround any boss.

To improve quality of life, unleash is used to summon multiple raging spirits in a single cast, and Replica Bones of Ullr lets them refresh their duration when they hit a boss.


SUPPORT MINIONS

The build also uses the following support minions:
• 1 carnage chieftain spectres for frenzy changes,
• 1 host chieftain spectres for power charges,
• 1 tukohama's vanguard to reduce enemies' fire res,
• 1 xoph's favoured to gain additional fire damage,
• 1 animate guardian with Kingmaker.


SURVIVABILITY

For survivability, the build stacks armour to reduce physical damage and block chance to avoid attacks and spells. There is also life recovery when you block, as well as fortify from the Animate Guardian.

Gear, Gems Links & Flasks

HELMET

The helmet is for your support minions, so I recommend +2 or +3 to minion gem level.
You can also try to get enemies take increased elemental or fire damage.

Enchant: SRS Damage



If you’re worried about your AG dying, swap combustion to minion life.


You can check my Animate Guardian guide for details on his equipment.



BODY

The body armour should have +2 to SRS.
For example: a rare armour with +1 int and +1 active, or a unique with a +2 duration corruption.




For endgame bosses, swap Melee Splash to Multistrike for more damage.



Alternative body:

Level 10 Added Fire damage is 25% phys gained as fire. It's better than +2 to gem level! But base is evasion, so can be difficult to get 4b2r (use Harvest colour craft)



GLOVES

The gloves are Vixen’s Entrapment to get a second curse.

Enchant: Reflection/Light/Grave



The gloves auto-cast Assassin’s Mark, when you self-cast Punishment, which is socketed in the shield.



BOOTS

For the boots, I recommend Replica Bone of Ullr, which lets the SRS refresh their uptime in boss fights.

Enchant: Life regen or Movement speed





WEAPON

For the wand, the important mods are: +1 to minions and spells.
You can also get minion damage and cast speed.
It also needs an open suffix to craft trigger.



Keep desecrate and lifetap at level 1!



SHIELD

For your shield, the important mod is ‘recover life when you block’. And try to get extra block chance.



We just need Covered in Ash, so keep Infernal Cry at level 1.



AMULET

For the amulet, the important mods are: +1 to fire skills and +1 to intelligence gems.
Anoint your amulet with Death Attunement to get an extra spectre.





RINGS

Use the rings to stack life, resistances and dex if you need it.





BELT

Use a darkness enthroned to socket more ghastly eye jewels.





RECOMMENDED FLASKS



Life: Instant Recovery when on Low Life + Bleed removal
Prefix: Startled, Frightened, Alarmed, Terrified, Panicked
Suffix: of Sealing, of Alleviation, of Allaying, of Assuaging

Utility flasks: Reduced charges or Increased duration
Prefix: Apprentice's, Scholar's, Practitioner's, Brewer's, Chemist's
Prefix: Investigator's, Analyst's, Examiner's, Clinician's, Experimenter's

Basalt: extra armour
Quicksilver: extra speed
Quartz: remove freeze/chill
Rumi's Concoction (extra block)

1/32 chance with Faceted but it's too expensive.

- You lost the 100% increased crit chance mastery while not taking the new crit cluster.
- You didn't switch to Plaguebringer in lieu of unnatural strength (which did nothing)
- You didn't craft a +2 minion helmet

Lost some survivability due to trading life nodes for the new crit wheel (though could probably earn some of that back because you no longer need Alberon's Warpath). I did not fix the mana reservation issue from the lost mastery, but that could be as simple as switching out the life cluster for a reservation one (for more lost life unfortunately).

3.19 - 737k (-36%)

Also lost 1 max skeleton mage from Alberon's Warpath change so nerf is a little worse than above would indicate.

You could potentially improve on this with better gear, but you probably won't get it to where it was. Crit damage in particular is strong (I stuck with standard frenzy/power charge apes for spectres). 20% crit damage was ~3% damage compared to 16% minion damage being ~2%. That means spirit offering is quite strong as well if you can live without bone offering:

3.19 Spirit Offering - 913k (24% increase, larger than flesh offering)

I don't know how that compares with endgame SRS, so I don't have any way to compare it.
What were the changes to charges on minions ? Was it just a nerf in numbers ? How bad is it ?

God damnit, you're making it soo tempting!! With the ascendancies, if mages lost too much HP, would we be best switching Plaguebringer out for Bone Barrier for the 20% increase to minion max health, may help a bit against AN mobs.
