| Bad time to buy a new machine. Windows 11 is coming out and it wont run on older hardware. Best wait until at least October. Last edited by Shagsbeard#3964 on Aug 2, 2021, 4:05:59 PM | |
| " not gonna be like the free opgrade that was like win7 -> 10? |   |
| Not if your machine can't upgrade. Just something to think about. I have a pretty good rig that's about 3 years old. It wont be running 11. Don't know if that's a big deal or not until I see what 11 is going to do. | |
| " Not to mention scalpers and scalper prices on components, especially GPUs. | |
| Don't see that going away until Crypto becomes unprofitable. Don't know if that's ever going to happen. Don't pay it. Wait for direct sales to become available. | |
| " Chip shortage is main issue right now but yeah crypto plays a part, and scalpers. There were articles last month about some teen in NJ that made a lot of money "reselling", which when you read further into it turned out to be scalping I think PS5's. I know scalpers were all over the RTX 30 series launch too. Not a good time to buy a new computer. | |
| Just buy pre built, there is a wait. but better if you dont know how to self build / dont want to chase down parts. | |
| Dont overdo it, I tried to future proof with a RTX 2080 Ti 11GB when they were new, but I am still playing PC games like PoE or Witcher3 or Nioh2 that would run fine on 1/10th to 1/4 of of the power. I would go with dependable premade brands rather than power or custom builds. Very few games (VR mostly) need anything like the top hardware. So if you arent a VR gamer, dont worry about it. | |
| My machine was purchased in September 2019 and will run Windows 11 just fine. Almost anything you purchase today should be able to run Windows 11 as well.
