Bear Trap

(elemental bow maurader)

my lvl10 bear trap is suppose to do 360 physical dmg.

but in the attack bar, it says i do 540 phys dmg. WHY?

i do not have any +phys dmg nodes. just +elemental dmg nodes.

so why is bear trap 50% more powerful than listed?

Where did i get that from?
Check the gem tooltip. It's listed just above the requirements.
It's an inherent modifier that Bear Trap has.

Damage Effectiveness is a final modifier to the damage dealt. If you were to link Added Lightning Damage for 1-15 Lightning damage, the DE will multiply that by 1.5, making it 1-23 Lightning damage instead.

thx! thought the dmg listed in the wiki included the 1.5x modifier.

so for shockwave totem it says 50% Damage Effectiveness.
does that mean the dmg will be 1/2 of what is listed?

Once again, I would like to bring up the petition for traps to have max stacks when you load into a new area. For pure trap builds, it really sucks to have to run around completely defenceless for 10 seconds

also, on a side note, the mana cost for this spell becomes absurd when I level it. I only have them at level 6, but when I attach added lightning and added cold damage, the mana cost gets bumped up to about 50, iirc.

However, i do understand the mana cost cannot be lowered too much, as then I can simply put in three bear trap gems, wait for max stacks and kill the act bosses with 9 bear traps, thrown in one after the other.

edit: also, please clarify if these support gems are the ONLY support gems that work with bear trap:

Added Fire damage
Added Lightning Damage
Added Cold Damage
Added Chaos Damage
Blind
Cold Penetration
Fire Penetration
Lightning Penetration
Reduced Mana
Stun
Increased Duration
Culling Strike
Trap (yeah, its retarded, but trap works with firetrap)
Chance to Ignite
Elemental Proliferation
Increased Critical Damage
Increased Critical Chance
IIQ/IIR gems,
Remote mine (once again, who would attach this? but yeah, it works)

Ehmm, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but when I throw a Bear Trap, and someone activates it....they don't get immobilized at all.
The Snare duration depends on damage dealt versus target Max Life. If you have a level 1 Bear Trap in Merciless, it's not going to do much.
Can that be the problem?

Yeah it might be. Had a Level 1 Bear Trap in Cruel :P
