[3.16] Coldslinger | Vortex | Creeping Frost | League Start | SSF | CI/LL

Picked up this build for my league start and it's doing well so far, just got to maps. I'm wondering if there's a reason why we don't use Vaal Discipline over normal Discipline, or if it's just personal preference.

Is this good league starter? I usually play only 1 character per league and I'm looking something what to do in this league and this looks promising. Is this something I can play from start to finish and clear everything?

Yes (title lol).

Definitely use 2 Frozen Trails if you have them (only for the increased projectile speed).

Personal preference- use Vaal Discipline if you got it. I don't like pressing buttons, so Level 21 Discipline > Level 20 Vaal Discipline for me.

Doesn't Frostbolt mess up our EE setup?

I chose Profane Bloom for my 8th point. Just wondering if it's worth it for the chance for explosions. I see the effect happening but not sure if it's doing much, or maybe in low tier maps it's not noticeble because of low mob health?
On phone right now. (so cant link gear/char)

But clyde; curious.

If you take gander at my gear / skill tree, what can I possibly do better? Where can I increase the dps? I feel like I survive a ton but the dmg isnt there.. (late yellow maps rn, soon red).

Any tips on the tree/gear that sticks out to you?

Charname iddqdOC

Would love any pointers or help; thanks in advance, been fun thus far.

Day 1

Spoiler

Day 2

CI now. ~5.7k ES with barely any ES on my body armor.

Really cheap upgrades purchased from trade, nothing more than 3c.

Looking forward to how far I can push this, has been a very efficient and cheap starter so far.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but it looks like spellslinger and frostbolt are not linked in your shield, so imo this will cause a damage loss (BRB sockets, with nothing in the red one).

Try to craft your wand on a 1.5 attack per second base (Imbued Wand). Even better if you can push it higher with an attack speed roll. Helps the DPS a chunk, but even more importantly makes any spellslinger build feel so much better. You'll enjoy your maps more and die less often from having to stand still longer with your stutter steps.

If you're playing trade worth investing into a trigger crafted wand off. Once you get that you can get your EE setup rolling much easier and a big boost in damage too. Try to avoid added flat cold to attacks (Power Siphon) or spells (storm brand), but if you can snag some fire/lightning to attacks on any piece of gear it helps a little (gets Power Siphon helping with EE).

Worth keeping an eye out for some Jewelers Touch div cards. 5 link is always a big step up in damage. Especially for the Vortex speam you'll be doing.

I did the same and from a quick run of maps I did just after picking Profane Bloom up I have some ideas about why.

Firstly, We don't really curse everything on the map, since we dont pierce with power siphon as far as I'm aware. So there's very little chance for some chain reaction profane blooms. This might change once we get a curse on hit ring so that the initian hit of creeping frost/frostbolt curses the backline of monster for them to boom-reaction.

Second, The aoe-size of the explosion is not being scaled at all ( neither is the damage but I assume 25% mob health is enough) making it feel less impactfull when it does explode.

I believe that with the current tree and setup malediction is the over-all better option unless the on-hit curse ring really changes things.

Any thoughs on putting Cold Snap into the Spellslinger Helmet over Creeping Frost, now that we switched to Power Syphon over Frenzy as our Spellslinger trigger? It would give us back the Frenzy charges while clearing, which is both damage and QoL (through higher attack speed).

Tried it and I was sadly remembered that triggered cold-snap can't consume frenzy charges to bypass its cooldown so I went back to creeping frost and self casting cold snap now and then for charges.

Normal Vortex builds will take it to help clear but this version has no issues with clear with the Frostbolts going everywhere. The Hexproof enemies part is nice though.

Malediction is probably better though for defense and offense.
