We arent really in melee range or aiming to be hit, i league started this last league with no issue until i got the rings like 3 or 4 days in

What is your attack? Barrage and it triggers all spells? Wanding with the pens? Both?

Barrage triggers coc on crit, poet pen on attack swing

As long as you swing your "wand" attack or skill wise, it triggers poet's pen

This may be a question that youve heard already but isnt frenzy with barrage support also an good option? (ik that you wrote something about frenzy in your QA)

Theoretically, frenzy is better, attacks faster, generates frenzy charges.

However, when put into play, barrage actually triggers poet's pen faster than frenzy. Try using both with wave of conviction to test. The further wave of conviction travels, the slower the cast rate.

I thought I read that he said bv sucks for this build later so I'm not sure if you're using it early.

I was going to league start as a poison bv (level as CA/TR) but this poet pen build has me intrigued.

BV doesnt blade blast well, it just pulses out like a nova effect, not impressive considering we can have 6x the explosions from bladefall
