I leveled an Arc Miner as my 2nd hero this league as a filthy casual because I thought it might be better killing 4-watchstone Conqueror's my Cyclone Glad couldn't handle.
So I've got 5ex and wondering if I should give this a shot or stick with the Arc/Ball Lightning variant. I've only thrown a handful of chaos at my Arc miner, but it was all HP/Lightning gear.
Should I swap to this? And if I do, do I just throw 2EX at a 5-link Shav + Chayula and then build a 5-link Tremor Rod on the weapon swap? Will that get me comfortably farming red maps once I level gems, hit level ~80?
This feels like a better long term investment, but I barely know what I'm doing in PoE.
It will certainly work, and be a better long term character, but it’s really to each his own when it comes to mine selection.
Imo arc and icicle feel pretty similar in terms of clear speed, but icicle scales a bit better and has freeze going for it.
Pyro and ball lightning are also similar in that they both do good single target dps, but pyro is better in that regard but has worse clear.

I’m curious if anyone else has tried the new Astral Projector ring w/Pyroclast. I’ve found it makes Pyroclast a viable clear skill. Not quite to the level of Arc or Icicle Mine but better than Ball Lightning. It also juices Pyroclast mine’s already stellar single target.
Icicle may still be the best with great gear, but I’m having fun exploring the viability of always using Pyroclast mine.
Have heard it’s interesting, but haven’t gotten a chance to test it out yet.

For anyone following along,
Cold pen has taken over the 6th gem slot for mid teir builds. The red gem is still better when you are getting 40+ pen from other sources though. Awakened cold is also good here as it surpasses both red gems in dps potential.
Next agenda on the docket is to test out a few different setups involving awakened cold, numbers wise it’s great, just don’t know exactly what it will replace.
I’m going to test it out in place of pierce, and pick up the pierce wheel on the tree. Swift assembly may be worth testing out as well, but last season when I tested it, it was always the 2nd or 3rd best gem in the setup.

Also works just fine. I haven’t played a ton of GC since it got a small nerf a few leagues ago, but I know that’s it’s boss damage is still great, the clear may be a little worse though.
Only things that would be different are the chest colors, auras and weapon. Rest of the build works

Is there any pseudo "machina mitts" until i can farm up the 5 ex for em?
Atm my damage is alright all things considered but i can't tank/leech ES quick enough to survive more than a hit or two. Sitting at 5,7k ES and 400 unreserved life atm with 4 auras (skitterbots, enfeeble, clarity, discipline)
If other pieces of gear matter, here's what i currently have (and yes, i know quite a few slots could be better):

There isn’t, but they aren’t needed all that much imo. With discipline and some ES regen speed from the tree, you should be more than covered.
My guess is that the reason why you are having so many problems is because your ES is so low. Work on getting stronger items with more ES, those should be pretty cheap upgrades. Then make machina mitts your last purchase. The floor seems to be falling out on them anyway, in a week or so they should be under a few ex.

what do you do if the boss is ranged, just keep flame dashing?

Kite around in a circle and just keep throwing mines. works against pretty much everything
