Just need some info

Is it viable to run caustic arrow and toxic rain together? I've been using both, one for mobs and the other for bosses, was just wondering if it was a good idea or if i should only focus on one of the two, and also what gear should i keep an eye out for, i know how i want to do my passive tree, I'm just unclear on what ascendancy and gear i should take.

You can pick whichever ranger ascendancy and make it work, but Trickster will be stronger due to inherent buffs from his ascendancy (Patient Reaper / Prolonged Pain are very strong for both skills).

You could possibly use both skills using a weapon swap or something, but it's extra work, and some stuff benefit 1 skill more than the other (caustic arrow benefits from pierce / multiple projectiles more than toxic rain, toxic rain benefits more from attack speed).

For gear I'd recommend check some guides and see similarities in gearing, for example: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2077932/page/1 for caustic arrow, https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2467666/page/1 for toxic rain. The items used have similarities, even though they'll be differing to fit specific ascendancy strengths. For chest slot you can use carcass jack as a good all around option.

In my opinion, it's not optimal.

Herald of agony makes sense in 2 types of specs:

1. Minion builds with HOA 6-linked and a supplementary skill that allows you to stack virulence a lot (rain of arrows, cyclone, storm brand etc. with lesser poison / poison support), you just want a fast hitting multi tagging skill but main damage comes from beefed up herald minion.

2. Poison scaling builds like viper strike and baseline HOA just there to help you reach 100% poison on hit cap / buff poison damage.

Caustic arrow applies caustic ground, not poison, it doesn't scale with poison damage.

The caustic ground is a damage over time / degen, so it doesn't apply on hit effects, only initial arrow will, so your ability to stack virulence will be very limited.

Therefore I don't think it fits into any of the 2 styles for HOA usage.
