(3.5) My own Spin on Mathil's CoCSpin: PF with different gear choices and explanation (Uber viable)
Hi all,
I'd like to show my approach to the 2H CoCSpin pathfinder. The base of this build is Mathil's 2H CoCSpin, so most of the credit goes to him! As he was using some items and gem setups I disliked and is able to cover defenses with his playstyle which I cannot, I took a slightly different approach. Anyone who wants to play this build as he built it I can only encourage to try. I will explain why I thinks ome items are more good or bad, also I can cover most of the crafting stuff and some more budget options. My version provides a more laid-back playstyle because it doesn't need to curse stuff on hit for leech or maintain power charges. BTW: If anyone needs any of those mods crafted, just PM me ingame (@TheGreenEmpress)! So, first: My Gear at Lvl 95. You don't need the level of gear investment I have to take down most or even all content of the game. See budget section for more details. I took down uber Elder at L92 or 93, and I am not overly experienced in the fight. In my last try at L95 I just died once due to a mistake. If you got Mathil-like skills, it'll be deathless.
Spoiler
And for flask switching: (at bossfights, I switch from silver flask to this) Also most of the time I used a different amulet: Also some Abyss jewels like those: One had to have STR, but ok. Why Lightpoacher, why BV duration enchant?
Spoiler
Well, Lightpoacher can provide good life too with the right jewels and thus is a good solution. It is the slightly more offensive version to an Elder Base helmet. If you manage to get Elder with added phys dmg, that helmet might outperform lighpoacher easily. But this one just cost me 2 ex with enchant on it.
Sidenote: When you play phys reflect maps, put a phys to lightning gem in the lightpoacher. Otherwise you will get damage from its projectiles! Why BV enchant? Well, it just looks like QoL, but this is huge. Thanks to the duration, you can have 10 blades up in bossfights. That is great damage! Also, Since I was lucky corrupting myself a 21/20 Vaal BV, it was the best solution to buff this gem. As a secondary effect, you will almost always have BV stacks up while mapping. Those will hit mobs you attack before anything else happens, so it's also a very safe way of playing! Why Kaom's?
Spoiler
You don't need a curse setup when you have a Warlord's Mark ring. Additional gems are not necessary, so you can just go Kaom's. It provides a huge deal of Life, I stand at 7700 at L95. Very comfortable!
Chest comparison: Kaom's vs Shaped vs Elder vs Farrul's vs Loreweave
Spoiler
Shaped Chest
Spoiler
Life with that chest: 6501 Vaal BV DPS in HO with Wrath and HoA: 39316 The spellcrit is veeery good, very enjoyable to have the shatters and shocks more frequently even. My overall #2 behind Kaom's, might be #1 even if you don't want to level past early 90s. I did NOT use a second curse. Elder Chest
Spoiler
Life with that chest: 6770 Vaal BV DPS in HO with Wrath and HoA: 35236 You do proc a bit more, but it's not much of a difference. You don't hit any harder. With a good diamond flask active you barely realize the elder mod. Just my insane life rolls make it acceptable. Overall not recommended! #5 Farrul's Fur
Spoiler
Life with that chest: 6386 Vaal BV DPS in HO with Wrath and HoA: 35236 - 46918 (with charges, and Aspect of the Cat!) My #4, it gives lots of damage because you can go for Herald of Ash + aspect of the cat, and have charges most of the time. I would seriously consider it, if it was cheaper and I had 12 sec charge duration. It's nor better than a shaped chest for this build tho. Kaom's Heart
Spoiler
Life with that chest: 7695 Vaal BV DPS in HO with Wrath and HoA: 35403 (a bit more after crit, cause some jewels give me 2-4% extra fire dmg based on phys, which kaom's scales. But that's tiny). My #1 cause it lets me survive many dangerous situations and I got to lvl 96 with it. Not deathless, but you don't need more damage from the chestpiece. With about 1000 max life above the very well rolled Elder chest and almost 1200 above the more offensive shaped chest, this is my way to go. Loreweave
Spoiler
Life with that chest: 6263 Vaal BV DPS in HO with Wrath and HoA: 39426 Also, possible 80% max res. That means, instead of 25% elemental damage going through, you receive just 20% damage. that's a total of 5% and a relative 20% less elemental damage taken (5 of 25 is 20%). So you have good suvivability against ele dmg and quite high effective life under those circumstances, around 7500. I still don't like it somehow. I guess it's a tad better than a rare shaper chest, so I give it a shared #2. Required crafts
Spoiler
Gloves: You really benefit a lot from 40-50% phys to cold and Lightning conversion. 24 or 25% Lightning conversion is what you should aim for, as you will have more lightning dmg scaling and penetration. Crafted AS is fine. See budget section on how to get cheaper versions.
Sword: You can choose to go +2 support gems instead of Spell/chaos dmg mod. You would then use a Lvl 4 Empower for best DPS and thus use GGGBBR as colours. "Hits can't be evaded" is absolutely crucial as you cannot afford to stack accuracy and even if you could it would be worse. Auras
Spoiler
Well, as I mentioned, running WM via a ring is the best solution. You can apply it via CoH setup too of course. So you have WM, and 100% free mana. The obviously best way to go is Wrath, because it greatly buffs lightning dmg, and you convert up to 75% of your phys dmg to Lightning. Additionally, you can run Herald of Ash (good and offensive solution, synergizes well with Kaom's and the abyss Jewel mods that grants fire dmg based on pyhs dmg after a crit), and you can go for a more advanced and defensive option with an Aspect Skill of you choice. I went Cat, cause I never used it before. Avian and Spider would work too. But they may be hard to fit it.
As a third option, I use Clarity, for no other reason then that I can. The Watcher's Eye with Clarity mod I bought was just 2 ex more that a 2-prop Wrath one, so I chose to get it. So i have -9 to mana cost thanks to Watcher's Eye and Clarity. I can run no leech maps with this, but it's not overly smooth. Watcher's Eye
Spoiler
Go for Wrath Lightning dmg penetration, anything on top is a nice bonus but will be costly
Itemization: Craft or buy?
Spoiler
I crafted my gloves, WM Ring, Belt and several amulets myself. Gloves and Ring via alt -> regal, Ammys per chaos spam, Belt with delve crafts.
You can also craft the sword yourself, but I wasn't patient enough. Start with an iLvl 75+ SHAPED base, and aim for any CoC + AS/double damage combinations. Use beastcrafting recipe for imprinting it once you got that, and the regal it (hope for Crit chance as that's the only roll you need), otherwise go for annull. You can also regal anytime you get one of the mods, but I would advise against that. I tried it, got the right combo twice, with a thirb mod on top obviously. Both annulls failed. You cannot imprint a rare item, so that way would be quite annoying or luckbased. Skilltree
Spoiler
You can import it from my profile, character TheGreenEmpress. basically I took Mathil's tree and cut out 3 Power charge nodes cause I don't use powercharges at all, and also cut one node (Sanctity) at the Templar, to allow for Phase acrobatics. If I ever go to lvl 96 I'd then take Sanctity.
Budget options
Spoiler
Gloves: Go for any gloves with 25% conversion from the Incursion temple and see if you can add another conversion craft.
Amulet: Go for more generic one, Spelldmg - life - crit chance - crit multi - maybe a res. Chest: Belly works well too, you don't even need 6L. 4L should do! Ring: Just any WM ring with life and maybe resists. Possibly drop WM in the ring and use a Belly or Loreweave with WM on hit Setup (Storm brand wirks well) Sword: You can level with Terminus est, and just delay the time you switch to a crafted sword. You can also use a SHAPED Curved Blade as crafting base, it just has 40% Crit Multi instead of 60. The base is much cheaper to buy usually, and since we don't rely on the dmg of the sword, it's really just the multi that's not optimal Helmet: Any helmet with good life and whatever else you need. Watcher's Eye: You can get up to 40% Conversion from a Watcher's Eye too while affected by Wrath. Thanks @ dazen16 for that suggestion. Ty for the guide
I saw Mathils Build online and I really, really wanna try it out, cause it really looks awesome and a fun way to play, but the problem I have is, that I have no idea really how to start with that build at all. I recently came back, and there is so much new stuff, but for me the most important thing is how are you gonna lvl that build? Or how did you start leveling? BV from the start or really later on; when/what lvl was the point to go from leveling gear to the more refined gear, especially with the 2hand-weapon, which is mandatory for this build? I would really appreciate if you can give me some insight on leveling and how to start. Also do you need a shaper version or does a normal Exquisite Blade work as well? cheers |
|
Could I use a watchers eye with conversion as another budget option?
|
|
i went for a elder astral plate with crit + life + res and crafted +1 curse
playing as scion "Ah, salutations my children... are you ready for your daily dose of smooth jazz?"
|

" Thanks, I am glad you like it. I understand it's quite a bit to manage, and this build is not very easy. I leveled with Blade Vortex, then later on I used Terminus Est and the CoC setup in a 6L chest. For Exquisite blade, you need the shaper version! I mentioned it, but still good you ask before buying a normal 6L :D Only shaper items can roll the Cast on Crit mod or even AS/Double damage hybrid. So yes, has to be shaped. " I guess yea, I actually didn't think about that :D Max Conversion is 40% tho, so it's not as effective in lategame. " Scion...with PF and Slayer? Elder Chest should be good too, but maybe not as effective/too much on the offensive side for me. I will try Farrul's Fur next I think, I recently managed to get one. But that's a quite offensive option as well. Currently going for Lvl 96, I am at 70% atm ;) |

Oh I meant using a conversion watcher eye + either the temple mod or crafting it myself.
Also how much chaos did u spam to craft your neck? Last edited by dazen16#0771 on Jan 31, 2019, 6:45:09 PM

" That would be valid ofc. Just a bit annoying not to actually gain damage from the watcher's eye, but this way you could go 100% lightning dmg via conversion. Good point. About the ammy: no idea tbh, I had like 5 shaped Amber ammys, ilvl around 78 (75 is required for the T1 extra phys as cold/light and at 80+ they were more expensive without any gain) and just spammed until something happened. Eventually I got the one with double mods and later on the second with just 4 mods, and then i crafted Aspect of the cat on it cause I didn't dare exalt it. I think it may have been 300 c, maybe even less, but I assume that was a lucky roll. I went for it, thinking I'll sell what doesn't fit me. With the new crafting methods tho your chances to get something you can actually use are okay-ish. If you need stats, a Loreweave will provide. I just use Kaom's cause I love the amount of Life and Survivability and wanted to level further. You can absolutely beat anything with other chests that fill in what you need and maybe later transition to kaom's. |

Ah ok.
Im just in the process of buying a neck and gloves to use, ad then will craft my sword. CUrrently its just l18 CoC, will muti mod with spell dmg + non-ele as chaos, atk sped hits can't be evaded crit chance |
|
Yea that will do :)
However, bear in mind that the 20% chance to deal double damage is effectively a 20% more dmg multiplier overall. It counts for spells too! |
|
Yah I really want that double dmg mod, but alts are 4:1c right now, and I'm all out. Should have bought more when prices were better
