@swagturtle : why are you using drillneck, Toxic rain looks like old RoA so, none of the projectile are piercing right ?

@99prosorc: please do not refer to porcupine card as you cant get a +3 on it.

@About using lioneyes : you should check how significant is the first portion of the TR damage compared to the dots. I mean if you are poison oriented, the only way to increase the poison damage with your bow is to increase the gem level and the attackspeed. The first portion sure deals much more hit damage but it is nothing compared to all the overlap damage of the pods.

As always CA sux against bosses and i believe toxic rain and CA should be combined like trickster using CA+ED. .
Plus,CA mobility goes well with TR damage for bosses.

I was wondering what bow I should get to use such combo. I think the +3 is still the good way to go even for solo toxic rain setup.

How about a +3bow with the classic CA setup and a chest with a mirage archer and toxic rain with all the +%more damage you can get ?

I messed around with Toxic rain a bit today. With quill rain you can stack tons of DoT and it's pretty insane. However, I think that once you have a bit invested in CA (+2bowgems, 6link, empower2) CA will outperform it in clearing, but will fall behind on bosses.

Toxic Rain requires a LOT less investment in order to get it feeling good compared to CA, though CA will perform better later.

I'm not sure about the piercing stat for Toxic Rain, however, the DoT does increase when using Drillneck. In fact, since the DoT stacks for Toxic Rain, it's super worth it to use a Drillneck. Also getting Porcupine + Shrieking Essence of Dread focuses the bow to +2 socketed gem regardless of it'
s level. When you do get a +3 bow, switch to CA.

Single Target IMPROVEMENTS!

1. don't use CA, use Toxic Rain instead, the DOT stacks

2. Use Quill Rain and spam

3. Get Drill neck, 50% more damage

4. Get Tabula for Toxic Links

3. Switch Conc Effect with Mirage Archer for better clear. Switch Mirage with Conc Effect when fighting bosses

4. Only link HoAg with Faster Attacks and Withering Touch for easy wither status on enemies, more chaos damage!

5. Link spell totem with Vaal Blight, more chaos damage & insane slow debuff!

6. Link Blasphemy with Despair OR Temporal Chains, recommend Temporal Chains for survivability and stacks slow with Blight Totem

7. Get WithFire Brew, get rid of Despair Aura and replace with Temporal Chains if your using Despair as an Aura

Links:
Toxic Rain Vicious Proj Swift Void Manip Mirage Archer Damage on Full HP

Spell Totem Vaal Blight

Blasphemy Temporal Chains

HoAg Faster Attacks Withering Touch

If I just slap Drillneck in my build it works with Toxic Rain?

I don't think the piercing stat will effect Toxic Rain, but the 50% bonus DoT damage do apply and I think it's worth using. Lemme know if there's a better quiver.
@swage:I get your point. Because of the hit portion of the pods, you think it does work when they explode. But yet, none of the TR arrows pierce and pods are not arrows.

edit: do you see the dot increases when you equip drillneck ?

Im using CA for clearing maps and everything just die from DoT and using Toxic Rains for bosses since CA on bosses is not that great. The only issue for me would be life/mana leech so Im torn between keeping my +2 bow or getting a lioneye to scale toxic rain and use CA on a 5l chest for clearing.

Any thoughts ?
So far CA on a Quill Rain has been amazing. Once paired with TR/MA it got better. HoAgony crawler is stacking high 30's most packs and generally high teens single target. And it stacks fast. Sadly my Quill Rain is only a 3 link until i get level 8 master, so just GMP and VP for now but the three all work together great. End game I plan to put TR on a separate bow and weapon swap for single target. Lot's of fun with this build and more survivable than any other toon so far. I am planning on taking Revelry and Essence Sap for mana sustain. I have several items for life gain on hit and I think that will keep me rolling pretty deep. I have already gone Raider withthis build and am planning an Onslaught Phasing build for endgame. Any thoughts?
It is annoying because I do not see where I am wrong when I feel pretty convinced that high dps bow is nonsense on a dot-based build. Please someone tell me where I am wrong.

Let’s assume you have 100% chance of poisoning, 100% of damage from the initial hit of toxic rain and a 500 dps bow.
Resistance and damage nodes are not considered
I assume spore damage overlap

In one sec :
Initial hit from the bow + poison = 500+500*0.2=600 damage.
Spore damage +poison : 283*4+283*4*0.2=1358 damage.

So, why do you all want to take a high physical bow ?
It will only change the initial hit from the bow. There is no extra damage from the physical damage of the bow on toxic rain that will exceed the damage you get from the spore and poison if you have a dot based build. Even if you take nodes into accound, you initial hit just happens 4 time less than the spore hits and also the spore damage benefits from chaos/dot nodes.

To an extent yes. However the skill is still bugged and not recommended at this time.
