Right. Because that analogy works so great here.

It's ok to not know something, or be too lazy to google it, or too scared to click on a current affairs source, in case you catch liberalism or socialism or some other vile disease from them, but these childish games are really beneath you. And more importantly. Me.

Anyways, ty for proving my point regarding pro-wall supporters and their impressive (lack of) knowledge regarding the fundamental issues.

You're the right amount of smug and ignorant to be a good caricature of a Twitter liberal. Thanks for that.

@Scrotie

That's my entire point. That's why it makes no sense to talk about dealing with people who overstay their visit in the context of a wall which serves an entirely different purpose. Yet rojimboo keeps doing it and he even feels super smart about it. It's fun.

How about you watch it mate.

We're are all just geeky gamers here, randomly discussing inane politics.

There's really no need for personal attacks and insults.

It wasn't meant to be an insult. Sorry if it got across that way.

People in the US illegally often enter legally
While 310,531 people were apprehended trying to cross the southern border illegally in 2017, in the same year more than 600,000 people who entered the US legally by air or sea overstayed their visas and remained in the country at the end of the year, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

So you knew all along that the wall would barely make a dent in the illegal immigration numbers?

Why on earth are you supporting building it with 6bn then? If it's so ineffective?

If I may stick to my analogy, you need both doors and windows to secure your home. Can't ignore the one or the other. And then you have to deal with the crazies who would dig a tunnel into your home. Nobody ever claimed (not even your favorite President) that the wall is the ultimate solution to illegal immigration. But it's one mandatory piece of the puzzle.

I don't think a wall is a mandatory piece of the puzzle of fixing illegal immigration. Nice to have, perhaps. But if you're running a business that's open to the public, the only time you need doors is when you close to the public. So if your business doesn't close, ever, then you don't need doors, ever.

Unless you're advocating turning Mexican tourism off.

It's a piss poor analogy, not sure it's worth rescuing.

Let's just forget about it for now.

You assert this main point:

1. The Wall will 'effectively' reduce illegal immigration

where 'effectively' is defined as a significantly high number.

But in order to do that, I've already shown how it could only dent 30% of the total undocumented immigrant number, depending on how effective it is.

It becomes a fraction of a fraction. For a whopping 6bn.

Looking at your healthcare and education systems, crime problems etc ad nauseaum, you might wanna hold on to that money and spend it more wisely.

Nevermind the fact that immigrants to the US contribute a lot to the economy, are less criminal than native citizens, but happen to be of the wrong colour usually.

The last point being the most important, I'm sure, for some.
30% is infinitely better than 0%, that's for sure. And yes, immigrants contribute a lot to the economy. Illegal immigrants not so much though, bigly deficit. And they're technically 100% criminal, they entered the country illegaly after all.

I also do think that the wall is mandatory. When you have hundreds of thousands of people every year trying to get across your border illegaly, you better make sure you have a border at all. No border = no country.

And just a protip, don't start with crime stats. There's a reason why Stormfront loves crime stats.

Bottom line:

Racists want "the wall"

Non-racists don't.

You know what I call someone who keeps bringing up the color of people's skin when no one was talking about it and it has nothing to do with the subject matter?

Hint: it starts with an R.

A border (in this context) is just the perimeter of a geographic jurisdiction. While I agree with the concept of "no geographic jurisdiction, no country" — and thus, "no border, no country" — the border doesn't have to be walled, merely marked. For instance, if you're coming in or out of the US along a bridge, there'll be a line showing where US jurisdiction starts and stops — but you can step across that line freely, no barrier there at all.

What matters to a nation is sovereignty, and one doesn't need a wall to have sovereignty over one's territory.
