Development Manifesto: The Atlas

Source? Because I am a player and I hate to have to unlock the Atlas, I haven't enjoyed at all. I dislike Unique Maps drop restriction too. And I'm not alone (just read the feedback threads), then stop your self-satisfaction and listen complains. Endgame was way better when it was sandbox.

The wording regarding Atziri was a little confusing.
Is this right?
The change will make Atziri drop a map that ignored what maps player has unlocked but any other maps that drop in apex/alluring abyss will only be maps player has unlocked?
Censored.

The same as for that "players enjoy harder grind" Chris' statement, i.e. pulled out of their ass.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
The map drop rates could use a bit of a boost, or adjustment, for smoother atlas progression IMO

Had a time where the game refused to give me certain maps via drops to where I just had to ask friends if they had any luck in getting that particular map. Now I'm just trying to get to higher tiers while other parts of the atlas just aren't showing up. Before I know it, I'll end up going on PoE.trade just to find maps I'm missing which I don't see as relatively exciting.

Some of the bosses seem a bit extreme (i.e. Cells/Canyon) while others not nearly as much (i.e. Pier/Peninsula). The Fire Fury, in particular, is pretty much the only reason why I hate the Cells Map so much right now. Maxed out fire res, and fire res flask, with 4.1k health with a good amount of leech/life on hit and her firestorm that she just loves to spam all over kills me ridiculously fast. My partner was someone who wasn't as tanky so that Cells Map boss pretty much one-shots my partner for barely being in the firestorm when it's called right on top of them. I can see the boss not being so far for players who'd kite her and manage to not get hit by the room being filled with fire everywhere, but, personally, I see it being the worst boss I could fight as a melee character.

I feel like I just need to be some ranged character now, but having to trudge through all the acts again just to get back to mapping isn't really a fun thought right now. I guess I'll just have to avoid the Cells Map for now. There was no fun to be had there. Canyon was a tough fight, but at least I can counter Gnar's massive puncture burst somewhat by killing that one first before focusing on the bird.

In general we'd like to focus on the reward rather than making them more common. There is little point making something more common if it's not valued.

You should do the same for Prophecies. Remove all the useless and boring ones and make them rarer.

no, it wont drop a map that you havent unlocked.

What they appear to be doing is increasing the rewards in some other undisclosed way, either through currency or Div cards e.g. the card sets that grant you a t14 or t15 map for example.

@GGG: Why not making the Atlas hold maps itself, a bit like the currency stash tab? It would be a great QoL improvement for finding and sorting them.
Shower thought: no two rares are the same. So rares are unique, while uniques are not. On the other hand, uniques are rare, while rares are not.

This.

I don't know about anyone here, but I've never gotten a player feedback survey or had anyone ask me.

Did I enjoy exploring the Atlas? Sure.

Did I enjoy unlocking it? Fuck no. Had to buy 90% of the maps with a shitty trade system, probably took more time to secure the white and low yellow maps than actually bee-lining to the boss tbh.

Did I enjoy crafting the Atlas? Not really? Sextant mods were pretty awful, so I just have stacks of them. Did Shape some maps, I suppose.

Sextants are awful, but I do like unlocking maps and exploring the atlas. It's great.
The only thing I don't like about unlocking maps is that I know I have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN NEXT LEAGUE!!! Oh god does THAT sound awful. I mean, I like doing it now...but it's like grinding master rep - it's going to be a pain every league. I hope they introduce some "shortcuts" in the future.
