Race Season During Prophecy League

At Winterheart, the Alt Start Malachai Kill (WHV125), a 24 hour race extremelly challenging and fun Malachai kill with a cold degen all around to kill you. It wasn't easy but it was very rewarding in terms of points. I'd love to see something like that again.

Also, never heard of someone complaining about headhunters events... so...

Have you guys given a thought on trying out a one race type that really tries to mitigate most of the RNG?

We have signature races, that have no nemesis/bloodlines etc and a fixed seed, but they are missing one of the most important things what we had in the alternative alt start (act2/act3) races: Starter gear, 10% MS as the #1 thing. Maybe as far as only having normal type monsters. I'm pretty much open to anything, and don't see it being a bad thing to test 5-15 races during a season to see how people like it.

A pretty big step for healthier (= more competitive) racing, while not being huge thing to implement I assume, would be adding quaranteed items to vendors after your character reaches X level. lapis/jade/amber amulet and heavy belt as couple examples. Not getting these items before your gems hit stat requirements to level up will in a bad case destroy your run completely unless you sacrifice multiple passive points in getting couple stat nodes, which will lead you to deal considerably less damage than the people who were not unlucky. Maybe a vendor recipe to acquire them?

It really puts you down if you don't have the basic gear to have even the possibility to compete for the top spots.

Small tweaks to lenght of some races, mainly Descent Champions. As of now (or last season) it lasted 40 minutes which in my opinion was atleast 10 minutes too long. The more experienced players could full clear all zones since over half the race and were still having extra couple minutes after killing the last boss, practically making the race for demi 100% depentant on the mob RNG in the later zones. If it was shorter, you would have to rush for the last zones a bit more and not completely fully clear 80% of the zones in the race.

Descent's layout/mob density variation is huge. Sometimes you get multiple levels in the same zone where another player gets barely 1-1,5 while both fully clearing it. Really, really hurts the competition in the higher skill levels. The time itself for this race (30 minutes) was pretty spot on, making it a must to somewhat rush for the later zones while trying to reach the minimum levels for having proper experience gain.

Corrupted zones. You guys removed master spawns, but have not touched CZs. They sometimes alter your layout with such a great impact that it completely changes the way the layout goes, not to mention about the chance of getting a huge gem like Vaal ice nova, vaal haste or such. They are okay to have in signature races, where everyone have the same layout in my opinion, however.

Boss kill races are in my opinion one of the most amazing race types we have currently, great job on those! I like how the seed is the same for everyone, but it is not fixed, leaving room for layout knowledge. There are some cases where you can't really benefit from knowing the layouts, having corrupted zones for example. This is where they should not spawn, in my opinion. Unless you add breadcrumbs to help players navigate even when there is corrupted zones. Warehouse disctrict's dead soldiers are a great example of how amazing breadcrumbs can be!

And for the most important feedback I can give is something you guys previously told you would be improving, is the communication on racing-related stuff. I guess this does fall into that category, but from a company like GGG I am expecting more, especially when you look at the communication you do on the other things.

Is it possible to grant prophecies on certain conditions? Granting 1 new prophecy per zone entered would make for an interesting twist :)

24h BLAMT boss kill race! I loved it and I really hope you will include it or something similar again.

Having to play super carefully and making a Twilight Strand a challenge already was good enough, but I guess it's a race length and possible promise of a significant reward that got me engaged and brought me back to racing after few skipped seasons.
Please do short races! Brutus, Blitz, 1-Hour Solo, Descend, Descend Champions and Endless Ledge are all very fun!

W0OH0O! It's been too long XD (Especially for me, I missed a few but I want to do this one strong and see if I can get top 50 XD)

Here are my favorite race types:

1. Brutus kill (I am practically in love with these events please please make them return!)
2. Descent (champs or not)
3. Endless ledge

Also please don't do too many party events. I understand a few, but sometimes there's too much. Like I understand making "1hr party", etc. But when its a different event, I like them to stay solo.

Also, as for rewards, I totally understand not wanting to make 3D art for stuff that ends up only being used in standard. But it would be really cool if some of the amulets had a little effect that went with them. Like how Mokou's Embrace has a little red glow on your fists, maybe these alt-art amulets could have a little glow on your chest, or a glow around your neck, etc. Something simple and easy to do the art for, but gives the character you use the item on a little more flare and, of course, shows off to the rest of the players your racing skill (hehe)

Brain storming ideas for new events

So if the league is amulet based, you need to have at least a few amulet based races.

First thing that comes to mind of course is talismans. A league where talismans dropped randomly from monsters would be pretty cool. Maybe even with a higher chance of being magic/rare.

Random idea: An event where you have like 5 amulet slots.
Reality: Probably not that cool haha, and maybe a hassle to make, just a thought.

Oh, how about you still only get one amulet, but the effect of your amulet is multiplied by like 5. That would make looking at items and bothering to pick up/craft amulets a little more important that it is currently XD

Probably too hard to make on a low budget race season, but what would be really cool is if your amulet was the only slot that was open. Amulets are the only things that drop, but they can have crazy crazy cool mods. Like 10 powerful mods. And they would have to be able to count as weapons too for attackers. Or...... Maybe each amulet comes with a set of gear hidden in it. So each amulet that drops can be equipped and it gives you a seemingly random set of items. Each amulet can drop with a different set of items embedded in it. But you can't see so you have to try it on.

Or maybe all dropped amulets can be picked up by monsters sort of the way talismans were... Oh wait... then you could just use talismans... nvm.

Or maybe a descent-like race where you pick amulets that decide your fate.

Or, focusing less directly on the items of the amulets themselves, maybe you do a thing with Merveil, and the Star of Wraeclast, like Merveil's minions are invading every area. And they could even drop amulets when they die. Maybe a guaranteed magic or rare item...


OK wow, that was a lot of ideas, my mind just ran with it haha. Hope some of those are a little helpful or spark some creativity XD Looking forward to this season!

Very good decision to make a statement about the race season - glad GGG did that!
I only hope it is not too late to "save" the competitive PoE racing community.

I really enjoyed watching races in the past (while not beeing a racer myself, i casually approach it from time to time) and it would be sad if this will end. Watching races always motivated me to play the game more often.
How about endless labyrinth races, with increasing monster level and with custom unique bosses instead of Izaro interludes? I'd love something like that.
