[3.5] Say_Ten's Melee Shadow - Murder Everything Cheaply

"
Hey.

It's my first experience in PoE and my first character, so i wanted to ask for any advises regarding my itemization and stuff. I was using frost blades as my main skill due to comfortable kiting & aoe potential, but i started feeling the lack of damage to solo targets/bosses. I don't have many chaos orbs and my items are like super trash, i just don't know what should i fix first.

Also i can't choose between this two. I know you use stibnite flask, i don't get the idea of using it because of almost the same amount of % evasion on my second flask.

smoke cloud, bruh. it's free blind to help you GTFO.
Thanks so much guys! Im not just blindly following, I'm learning what's important from this.

So this is my new flask setup:

and DMG: I have bought this
some time ago, just don't have an open slot in my tree yet. Only using the unique dual strike one at the moment. I'll search jewels when my next slot is open. Need to level some more first.

I'm gonna do some maps and get the hang of my new flasks now =]]

Cheers

i could help you a little more if you make your characters public so i can see your tree.

i also prefer an instant recovery divine flask with anti-freeze. reason being that you get frozen one time...it's not like a status effect that lasts. it synergizes with the instant recovery well for this reason. and divine because you get the most life from that flask base.

bleed is better on another flask (stibnite or basalt) because those flasks give you the buffs for 5.40 seconds...and there are plenty of situations where you can have bleed proc'd on you in quick succession.

the elemental resists on your stibnite is a LITTLE bit of a waste (unless you need them), but maybe not worth rerolling ASAP sinec the duration is good.

also that jewel is pretty good. could be better, could be worse, but fits the requirements well. just need one more similar jewel eventually.

good luck, glad to help, and thanks _DMG_ for your help helping
Hi again! I want to share my progress with this build in this league. I'm not a pro/rich in PoE and I am very proud of the character I achieved, I think it is very fun to play and addictive, so thanks Say_Ten for your build, patience and help.

This is my current stuff:

5720 life, 118k dps with dual strike according with skill damage indicator in hideout with buffs (without charges/vaal haste...), resis 96/119/114.
IGN: Pandemia
IGN: Aqueronte (Leveling atm)

Excellent. Keep pushing!
Just a "general" question... Do u think getting gems with 20% quality is really important?

Depends entirely on the Gem. A lot of damage skills (and some support Gems) will give ~10-15 increased damage or attack speed, and it starts to add up if you have multiple Gems that will give this. You eventually want 20% Gems because it's raw DPS added without any downside (besides money ofc). You may want to check the Wiki first to see what benefit quality gives a particular Gem, because some are geared to supports or don't make sense for particular builds.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though unless you are already doing harder maps imo. My guy leveled well past 85 before I worried any about Gem quality. Having good life, res, optimized jewelry, etc was a much higher priority than a bit more damage or attack speed on Gems. Some people will early on get high quality Whirling Blades / Faster Attacks for the increased mobility, and that makes sense for better utility and movement.

and for a simpler answer: yes. i q20 them all except for hatred since that just increases how far the aura extends to other players/allies nearby

Did you buy lvl 1 high quality gems and lvl up it? Q20 all gems seems really expensive.

Sometimes you can find cheap 20% corrupted gems. For a couple of gems, it was basically half price to get a corrupted level 19-20 with 20% quality. You can save money with low level gems but it can take a very long time for you to level them up. If you are already doing yellow maps and the gem isn't at least level 15, I probably wouldn't bother for example.

Search Poe.trade for level 15+, quality 10%+ gems and see if you can find good deals. Occasionally you will find a fairly high level gem with say 10% quality for ~3 chaos, you spend 10 GCP to get it to 20% and still save money in the end. On average you will spend 10-15 chaos per gem, whether you GCP your own or try and find one elsewhere. Not a whole lot you can do to make this any cheaper (without a big time sink, like low level gems)
