Please click this link if this is your first race event. A guide has been posted here which covers general aspects and strategies of racing. Dead characters will still receive reward points. A summary of Alternate Start events: Unlike regular races, Alternate Start events do not begin in Act 1, Normal. They can begin in any act or difficulty after that. These areas are the same level as they appear in the regular game, and are not scaled down for these events. To compensate, Alternate Start Events provide pre-levelled characters with unallocated skill trees, who start with basic gear and skill gems appropriate to their level. These race types are also voided. This event begins in Act 3, Normal, in The Sarn Encampment. Characters start at Level 22, with 25 unallocated passives. They have allied with Eramir when dealing with the bandits. Top Prizes: The overall top player by experience will receive 3 Reward Points. The top 20 players of each class by experience will receive:

LITERALLY just a "run to docks and farm it" race. ugh.

Yeah, this one has all of the boss kill points and "first to" rewards removed. That's why it's 45 minutes. It's simply a flag-waving contest for who gets the best zones and best drops, and who makes the best of what they have. On one hand, it's kind of what you want a race to be; on the other hand, you could probably write out the leaderboard ahead of time and just give everyone the points now. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I do know I'm going to have to run it... it'd be silly not to, and at least it's at 0100 instead of 0200 or later like a couple of the past weeknight overnight events have been that I've had to pass on.

I HATE this race type. HATE HATE HATE.
The starting gear is so bad. So far behind anything you would really arrive in act 3 with. You have NO currency beyond 3 portals scrolls in addition to wisdom scrolls. Nobody ever arrives in act 3 with no currency. I was so excited for alt start races because starting on the Twilight Strand over and over gets old. But you know what? If I have to deal with no currency and shit gear, I'd rather start on the Twilight Strand where I expect that to be the case. Give us the same base items but as whites, then give us 1 stack of each Transmutation, Augmentation, Alteration, Jeweller's, Fusing, and Chromatic orbs. That way we have a shot at making some decent gear, it'll all be magic (most people arrive with some rare gear, but whatever) and the race is void anyway so who the hell cares. Never again doing an alt start race (tried a couple this season) if this stays this way, yuck. Support a free Hong Kong.

Considering the pack size and map design in docks vs dried lake, and the time it takes to dried lake, seems that dried lake is much better than farming docks for the majority of the race. At least for templar anyways - I was nearly 10 minutes slower to dried lake than faster templars but still had around 12 mins of dried lake farm. Finished at rank 43 11th templar.
