Honestly there isn't really a good enough reason to justify crafting block pen onto a weapon

As long as pathfinder stays the same, most pvp chars can get max block quite easily (even in temp leagues).

Also it seems that people have forgotten all about tempest shield, which is still completely bonkers against the right opponent.

I know about pathfinders getting max block, but that's nowhere near the same level of defense as a max block legacy aegis build is, at least as far as blocking is concerned. Against a pathfinder, an 11.25% reduction in block chance isn't worth losing a prefix, at least in my opinion. You are definitely right about Tempest Shield though, completely slipped my mind. But like I said, I used to have a kinda decent phys dagger with block pen crafted onto it as a swap-out for block based builds way back when I used to play high level more often.

I can't say I've touched a high level melee build in almost a year now, so who knows. Back then not everyone had a pair of Death's Doors, so the only real ways people were mitigating bleed were through flasks. Plus, Tempest wasn't being abused nearly as much. Back then I would definitely have preferred bleed or a hybrid phys mod, but I could definitely see block pen being used as a swap-out if aegis builds were around more.

Could you explain the usefulness of that mod? I convinced ahfack of making those rings, maybe if we see it useful, we will craft some of them as well.

In pve there is several berzerkers afk build using it with leech. It s pretty much the only source of damage they use the rest is CWDT to ignite and regen.

Using the mod in pve is nothing new with zerkers also most of those build just really need the mods so crafting anything else than spell damage or x-y spell samage is useless for those.

I could see a pve build having insane cast/attack speed using this as sole source of damage and doing ok but wouldn t be optimum at all without having the mod on a 6l.

In pvp this mod pretty much useless in a meta where you can 1 shot anyone. Imo it s just a mod to use if you are obsessed with potential dps or got not enough damage to 1 shot.

In a GS version at least such mod give you 20-30k fire damage on top of what you deal (but it is chance to proc so imo people will die before you proc the mod anyway).

I can see the utility for GS users since they don t really have crit power. It also cast on everything, so say your winter projectiles can also proj the burst.

Imo I think it s not worth it if you are crit, already 1 shot people and have limited resources.

Honestly there isn't really a good enough reason to justify crafting block pen onto a weapon, at least in my opinion. It's a prefix, so on most weapons it's taking away either hybrid phys, bleed on hit or an elemental damage mod. I used to have a meh 300 pDPS dagger with block pen crafted on it that I used for a swap-out against aegis builds and for Grandmasters. The mod only applies to block chance, unlike the block pen support which applies to dodge, and it's only 15%. Aegis isn't really that popular anymore since everyone seems to enjoy offscreening with projectiles, so it's hard to justify it unless you want it as a swap-out. Though I'd personally prefer bleed by a mile. There are probably a few niche builds that it's good for, but I don't know.

I think depending of the situation crafting block on dual 1h can free up the gem on chest if you face non dodge players using block.

Having 2 weapons with block pen is just a way to add another multiplier for dps instead.

My links to fireburst are fire pen, conc effect (because it always hits the target, but its still considered AoE) and block pen.

As long as the supporting mods on the weapon are good enough (IE.: Don't just craft fireburst with melee mods for a caster), "sacrificing" a suffix for fire burst is nothing but positives. It gives you occasional SUPER strong hits that help cut through mega tanks.

I'm one of if not the only caster on standard right now that can kill any CWS or CWDT or reflect tanks using HITS (I guess I have to specify "hits" since scorching gay exists).

I attribute this to my fire pen, block pen and fire burst. With 2 gems that don't even bump up the tooltip damage, I still get close to 70k fire damage per hit.

Fire burst has been a really amazing addition to my build. To the point where I wonder why the fuck no one has done this before. Does it hit harder with a staff? Absolutely. You get 3 more links. But does the damage suck on a 3L? Fuck no. And because of the low frequency of fire burst hits, I would rather have the additional raw damage of 2 wands (as well as extra block pen).

I'm also going to make fireburst a staple in all my PvE caster builds now because it's literally that good. It's free additional massive damage.

Now as for the block pen mod, whoever says they're useless is pretty out of it. If I was a baller, I'd have 2 sets of weapons, one for block pen and one for raw damage (working on that), but block pen is literally the ONE thing that helps me get a series of hits on regen tanks.

That is an item!
Yea Harley is right, you kinda need BCR crafts to handle Aegis tanks if you deal hit damage. It's kinda why I don't always get to use icestorm in pvp; the gen alone doesn't really cut it. Gotta bust out the BCR dualies!
