Siege Ballista

Is there a complete list on what effects work for ballistas (or totems in general) and which not?

Life leech?

Effects like Toxic Delivery (especially important for me)?

Explosion effects from Gladitors bleeing related skills?

Does anybody know?
Totems do their skills with your offensive stats and abilites. But they are not 'you'.

You can usually work it out by looking at the wording of the skill. For eg:

Toxic delivery says "Poison you inflict with Critical Strikes deals 100% more Damage". This is an offensive stat, so the totems use it. So if they inflict poison with critical strikes, it will deal 100% more damage.

Life leech leeches life to you. This is an offensive stat, so the totems get it. If they leech any life, though, it will go back to totem, not the player. (An exception is Chieftan's skill which explicitly says that totems leech life back to the player)

Gratuitous Violence says "Bleeding Enemies you Kill Explode, dealing 10% of their Maximum Life as Physical Damage". This should count as an offensive skill so the totems will use it. If they kill a bleeding enemy, it should explode.

As another example, Elemental overload says "40% more Elemental Damage if you've Crit in the past 8 seconds". If you have crit in the past 8 seconds, you will have 40% more elemental damage. The totem will get the benefit of this since it is part of your offensive stats. however, if the totem crits, it doesn't give you this bonus, since you are not the totem. Also, the totem won't give itself this bonus either; if it had elemental overload it wouldn't help it at all, since it uses your offensive stats.

A good rule of thumb is that all the stuff you do to enemies works fine for totems too. But any benefits you get for doing that stuff will go to the totems instead of you.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

Thanks! That helped a lot :)

Really can't figure out which Class is best for a Iron Commander built.

Assasin seems great with all this boni to crit and DoT (especially since Ballistae are the single highest damage skill of all bow skills, which works perfectly with bleeding).
But he is miles away from everything totem related, which is kinda bad.

Ranger is obviously the queen of dexterity and ranged skills, but then again many boni of the Deadeye are towords things ballistae can't use (piecing, chaining, returning). So I have the feeling I would not use most of it. And she is still a bit away from totem skills.

Chieftain of course has so many nice totem boni, as well as the Marauder being the middle of totem skills. But he has neither ranged skills nor a lot of dexterity (Fluid Motion could help, yes). Also he is very fire related so to make the best use of his skills you probably would need a lot of fire damage, too.

The Duelist is perfectly in the middle of totem and ranged/dexterity, so star position wise he would be absolutely perfect. But his ascendancy classes are not that good for the build. The only one I think could be interesting is the Gladiator, as he is the bleeding specialist, which, like I said, works so nicely with ballistae. But besides the two ballistae skills his skills are mostly block related, so I would need Rear Guard to use them (I don't have Rear Guard).

Scion is always an option, but I really don't see any combination of skills of the Ascendant being nearly as strong as the other classes.

So has anybody some input for me? Ideas, experience?

Deadeye is perfectly legitimate :) Powerful Precision just grants 100% Increased Crit Chance which is good and cool, Rupture gets you real nice Bleed bonuses (everything relevant will Bleed in no time), and firing an extra Arrow is rarely a bad thing. Totem aim might be awkward with +1, that's kinda the only thing... A +1 Arrow quiver would be extremely good to even out the spread.

This here is what my Deadeye Iron Commander was building out to be (stopped at 60, was shredding stuff, super easy Lab). Played her last league, so I wasn't planning for the +1 Arrow yet. Rain of Splinters jewel, and a Spire of Stone jewel (above the Scion Life wheel).
Mostly aiming to use Point Blank, but grabbing Far Shot for clearing trash; it mitigates the Point Blank penalty a little bit. All in all, Deadeye is not fantastic, but perfectly servicable.

Raider should be really nice too. Your Totems still benefit from your Frenzy Charges, and you're still capable of dealing Damage yourself. Frenzy + Curse on Hit or something is pretty good.

That's just what I have experience with.

I use siege ballista on my LA deadeye (windripper, not Reach) just to deal with stragglers, add a bit of single-target dps, and to draw a bit of aggro etc... Firing 2 bullets instead of 1 makes it *much* more reliable, since monsters move around a lot. I've never seen it miss a stationary target either; it always seems to fire at minimum spread.

Among the ascendancy classes, Deadeye happens to be one that will benefit a lot from if one goes with more than three siege ballistae (have four thanks to +600 dexterity). 100% increased crit chance (actually 120%, 10% from just going to Powerful Precision, and the other 10% heading to Rupture) is a nice way to getting around not needing to go Assassin for more crit. Ranger is in a good spot to get notables like King of the Hill, Lethality, Heartseeker, Assassination (not like it is hard to go up the Shadow tree, possibly True Strike (I decided to skip it for more life and QoL). It is not hard to hit around 60% crit chance and 400% crit multiplier (using Iron Commander and the crit gems on top of that) as Deadeye. Then you got far shot, and the skill does not have much issue in off-screening, though detecting mobs from off-screen is a bit meh. I find +1 arrows a massive QoL to dealing with huge wave of mobs, so with endless munitions + corrupted +1 drillneck = free LMP.

I know there are other ascendancy classes that can do really with Siege Ballista too, but I just feel Deadeye does almost everything from damage output to QoL to even not taking extra damage from bleeding while moving, which is big defensively (Rupture is so amazing since it got the buff in 2.3).

I recommend getting Totemic Zeal notable, because not only does it make you place the totems down much quickly, but they last longer maximizing the damage opportunity. Big quality of life for those can bring out at least 3 or 4 siege ballistae.

Edit: Oh yea, Uber Izaro is still having nightmares being ganged up by my four siege ballistae. They show no mercy to him. :(

Why does this have 50% less attack speed and warchief has 10%?
In 2.6 patch Siege Ballista is very weak and not common used skill. Why? Flameblast + Spell Totem on 4L ( 3L actually ) is much stronger then 6L Ballista. Ancastral Warchif on same gear scales like 300% better. No one want play weak skill even more indirectly gimped by Drillneck nerf.

IMO Siege Ballista should get buffed, and that buff should be HUGE one. Or it will be one of junk skills, forgotten forever.

Bumping a dead skill that hopefully will get looked at for 3.0 being released (as the two most popular builds relied heavily on min-max gear and double dipping to even be guardian viable)

TBH I do agree with others that changing the -50% attack speed to -10% to match other totems would be a major gap-closer in viability.

Legacy league just ending now. There is new tool showing stats about gem usage and players build choices.

If you check totem skills balance it's very sad picture.

Spoiler

link ( not sure it will work after league end, that's why I do screenshot )

http://pathofstats.com/mainskill?liga=Legacy&tag=Totem&level=1+-+100

Ancestral warchief is like only king, rest are minority.
Even flameblast skill usage is like 4x lower ( and not all flameblasts users play totems btw )
I don't understand why this skill is so long dominant, I know it's meant to be meele help but for persons like me preferring dual totem playstyle it's very ugly picture.

Just tested ancestral warchief on beta, it's still godlike if you compare to siege ballista. You can have fully 1 month hard gear grind maxed siege ballist power in 2 easy days and 75 lvl only, and later you will be X times stronger.
