Having a great time with this build.
Just wondering, what spell would be best for single target DPS if I wanted to use a cold spell instead of flame surge?

@Fathervic - my final conclusion is that its really about your gems being level ~17, especially the Ice Nova. keep leveling, once you get to level 90+ let me know ur dps.

@PianistYang - I would try either Freezing Pulse or Glacial Cascade.

I am playing full cold CI version and as my single target spell I use Freezing Pulse in the following setup:

FP - spell echo (from staff, I have 5L pledge of hands as secondary weapon) - faster cast - power charge on crit - crit dmg - cold pen

You might want to swap faster cast for something else, my idea here is to be able to freeze most bosses (which you can do all the way to tier 10, haven't drop any higher map yet).

However I suggest you keep power charge on crit. While it doesn't provide any damage, it will help greatly when kiting, since crit based build which lose their charges kinda suck :)

EDIT: A short comment on Glacial Cascade - while it's viable it doesnt do as much dmg as freez pulse and cannot really freeze anything. It is safer due to distance at which you can stand though. Haven't tried with conc effect which might (not sure tho) boost it beyond freez pulse. But still, pulse beats it whenever the mob has resistances due to cold pen.

Just one observation I made while playing nova with vaal pact...

I use CWDT lvl 1 with warlord mark lvl 6 (to fit into CWDT 1). This allows me to have warp on 4 link (wapr, duration, coh, assassin mark).
Warlord mark gives 2% leech regardless of the gem level. CWDT lvl 1 is so low that any hit will cause it to trigger hence effectively cursing whole groups. Yea, even those you haven't yet approached. Also your chest doesn't need to be 5 linked this way.

The only downside is that lvling Warlord mark increased the chance that you get endurance charge on kill. This can be improved by having quality on it.

You mostly kill, and don't get hit too much, which literally makes you play with 1 curse UNLESS u're hit. You lose alot of HP & Mana regen from that, I wonder you don't experience mana issues.

Overall not a good variation in my own opinion but if its working for you so go on.

I have tried the CWDT curse Warlords before. I found mana to be a (major) issue with 6L pledge and only ~380 unreserved mana due to having no mana leech. Needed to swap in mana leech gem or use mana pot, didn't think it was worth it, better to just aim for 5L body to dual curse LW IMO.

Thanks again for this build, it is really fun to play! It reminds me a bit of the good old days of Dark Age of Camelot, grinding XP with a pbaoe mage.
I'm level 57 so far, and while I am extremely squishy and still have mana issues, I can easily imagine that this will get better as I level and acquire better gear.

On this subject, I was lucky enough to drop a carcass with a higher level character recently, a few jewelers later and after around 100 fusing I managed to make it into a 6S/5L. However I am facing the unforeseen issue of the sockets colors. After spending probably around 2-300 chroma I am still unable to get 2R/3B linked together. Even when I get 5 or 6 blue, a +2 red with Vorici usually replaces some blue by some green, which is useless. I have tried so many times that I have entirely emptied my chroma tab, a quarter of which was filled with them.

So what would you recommend considering the base of this chest? That I keep spamming chroma, or that I keep trying the +2 red from Vorici? I'm not sure which option is better ...

As for the carcass jack colors, did you use Vorici's crafting bench to assist you with the colors?
In case you don't know it, you can use his bench to choose stuff like "at least 2 red sockets" etc.
If you didn't use - do it :-)
If you did use it, and still didn't get it - this game really based on luck so..keep trying!

Yes I did try that, this was in fact my question, whether it was better to use the crafting bench or the chroma by themselves. As I said, the frustrating thing is that using the "2 red sockets" option even on a 6B always changes at least one blue (and ofc never the one that is not linked) to a green. Anyway, yes I'll keep trying!

In parallel, what is your opinion on Blasphemy? I was getting a bit frustrated while using lightning warp (it really feels terribly clunky and unreliable to me, plus it got me killed a lot) for the purpose of cursing, so I switch back to blasphemy. This means that the enemies are constantly cursed with both assassin and warlord marks, meaning that mana is not an issue anymore (except v. bosses) and that my survivability increased quite a lot.

I imagine that the main issue is that you lose arctic armor and herald of ice, plus the ability to get frenzy charges. However blood rage could solve that.

So what do you think? Blasphemy seems like a safer and more reliable alternative, although you lose on dps. And it also makes it so that you don't need a 5L chest anymore ...
