why does this skill ontop of its damage dropoff and AS penalty have a 3rd downside being lackluster aoe
Made a SSF ice crash build because I thought it was a cool looking skill ..

1. the AOE is so terrible as is, should increase in aoe with level like righteous fire
2. the actual attack doesn't go off if you strike towards the wall or something and deals no damage since there's no animation firing off → several near death experiences because of this
Played it LSC, got decent gear - switched to EQ.

Damage was limted in both single target and trash-clearing purposes.

The skill is dramatically trumped by Earthquake.

It would be nice to see it get a little love next patch, either by adding a threshold jewel for it or simply increasing it's AOE so that there is some reason to use it rather than EQ, Cyclone, or Sunder.

Very solid skill right now. Aoe is not that bad. Maybe will be better to allow center of impact to be moved around: if you hit further, more further area will be covered. Or +3 on level 20. Third idea is to give additional aoe based on number of enemies around like with cleave threshold gem. Interesting note looks like ggg fixed no attack near wall bug. Now it hit through walls. Really cool.

Damage effectiveness really shout to use it with 2h. Which in the stat stick meta mean 2-3 tier skill.

Interaction with multistrike is awful. On bosses it locks you for eternity. On trash mobs its even more useless, oneshoting pack - is bread and butter of IC.

Glacial Hammer with Winter Burial beats Ice Crash in all means. That's so sad. Ice crash needs a lot of love.
I had an idea on how to make Ice Crash more interesting. You could make it a channeled skill like Flameblast, but for melee and increase the damage and area with each stage. At the moment the skill has 3 stages that trigger on strike, but you could make it so that you could increase the stages per channel, and add a more damage multiplier to each stage per channel, so that it would still be beneficial to get max stages for single target. This would make the skill satisfying to use, with big, chunky burst damage like with Divine Ire.
Example of suitable upgrade:
- skill has chance to Maim on hit
- enemies maimed with this skill take increased cold damage

And threshold jewel :
- 1 additional stage
- chance to double damage with first stage
- limited to 1 or 2

Another visually suitable upgrade:
- cold damage can cause bleeding
But Ice Crash is a heavy aggressive melee and DoT doesn't fit it well.

EDIT
- enemies maimed with this skill take increased ELEMENTAL damage
Don't want to destroy fire and mixed crashers =)
