A guide has been posted here which covers general aspects and strategies of racing.

A summary of Time based events:

Timed based events are designed to create a competitive environment where players compete not by character experience, but by their ability to progress through the game and complete specific objectives, such as killing bosses.

The boss required to be defeated for this race is: Merveil, located in The Cavern of Anger.

  • The time recorded is based from the beginning of the race, not when your character is created.
  • Characters will not appear on the ladder until they have completed the objective.
  • Characters are not required to have completed the time based objective in order to receive points for the other objectives, such as points awarded for reaching certain levels.
  • Characters who die after completing the objective, will still be counted for receiving reward points except for the level-specific prizes.
  • Points are awarded at the end of the race, do not delete your characters until they have been moved to the permanent leagues.

Boss Kill Prizes:

Each Player to kill Merveil in Normal difficulty will receive 3 Reward Points.

correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean that if I die after killing merveil then I only get the three points, and 0 points for the obtained level? Thanks.

Nevermind, just read more carefully:

I've never done a Merveil race before.
the worst part about racing is having to listen to austimo when you open the thread
desync is a close second
Can someone answer me: as a spellcaster (witch) is it worth going for the quicksilver/hailrake quest?!?! So far I haven't gotten a definitive answer :|

I got 1st shadow and I did hailrake, QS is great, you just have to try managing it and transmute it for extra charges or charge recovery.
ProjectPT was right.

7th ranger

Found a pretty gg ring in prison, but overall it was a comedy of errors on my part - it's okay, it was only my second or third non-burst race of the season.

First off, I forgot to grab poison arrow from tidal island until I got to the waypoint at Ledge which cut my early dps down quite a bit. Better late than never, though.

Second off, I neglected to pick up any head gear throughout the whole race which screwed with my socket amounts, compounding with this next point

Third, due to my lack of sockets (which I only realised by the time I got to Coves) I wasn't able to socket Added Cold into my burning arrow, slowing my merveil kill. I considered swapping out my RoA for it, but figured the gear shuffling wouldn't be worth the time it would save to have the gem in for merveil.

Finally, I spent a few seconds to collect a shrine (which I thought was acceleration when heading for it but was actually replenishing) before the fight at Merveil. I lost on this gamble, as ranks 6 and 5 were both 4 seconds faster to kill merveil than I was.

Still, it was pretty fun and 7th isn't something to sneeze at. Time to level to 17 to make this a 10 point race.

very slow race...
