the curse only applies when your linked herald deals dmg. if you kill a frozen mob and it shatters, it will deal aoe dmg and apply the curse. it wont apply on standard hits, only killing blows which shatters.

also you just have to read the text to know why you shouldnt link something with hatred.

I'm having huge mana problem at level 47. I followed the leveling passive tree strictly, dont have any uniques right now. Using Hatred and Herald of Ice reserves all my mana. I'm only left with 87 mana that i can use. Not sure what i'm doing wrong. Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

I'm trying the scion version of the build, going full elemental dmg.

There's one thing I don't understand :
What's the synergie between Queen of the Forest and Alpha's howl ?
My plan was to get Queen of the Forest and Rat's nets. I don't see why Queen should be used with Alpha's howl and grace. We are not using Dreamfeather, so there is no scaling on the evasion for dmg.

Statement is archaic. Queen is just fine.

I'm relatively new to this game so take what I say with a grain of salt...

1. For people having mana problems, esp. when using most of the mana to reserve HoI/HoT and Hatred, I suggest grabbing the mana leech cluster on the bottom right side of the tree. Later on, you can spec out of some/all of these mana leech nodes when you get high quality gear and possibly get some leech on jewellery, quiver etc.

2. The way Herald of Ice works with a linked curse and Curse on hit is that the curse will only proc when you kill a frozen mob. And it's obviously harder to proc against bosses because you need to be killing to apply the curse. HOWEVER, even if you're not getting regular applications of the curse, the damage boost from Heralds is quite a lot (and global), esp. when you eventually get 20% quality on it.

3. A nice thing if you're using Herald of Thunder is that the lightning will auto destroy destructables likes vases for you, sometimes you can pick up some good currency from that. Also, you need to be somewhat close to mobs for HoT to proc on them, I personally like to stay as far away as possible.

4. Herald and Hatred give you a lot of damage along with frenzy charges + tornado shot on a 5 link... so when levelling, I focus on increasing my health until I feel like I'm taking too long clearing, then I upgrade gear and grab a few more damage nodes.

edit: make sure you're not linking support gems to Heralds/Hatred that will increases your mana reservation even more.

I used clarity for a while instead of herald of ice. doing the scion build so it took me a while to get to the 3 mana leech nodes, essence sap, but once i took them, no more mana problems... lvl 58 now and still using them. I am also using slitherpinch

I am currently playing with the neversinks TS guide.
For them who dont know. It is a TS build based on life and crit.
I saved up about 10 ex to buy a new 6L bow. For this amount of money i could buy a

Harbinger bow like it is recommended in the build with about 360 pdps, 50% crit strike chance and 13% attackspeed

OR

a random other bow with 430 pdps, 0 crit strike chance and 13% attackspeed.

What is in general better for a TS build? The harbinger with lower pdps but crit chance or the random bow with higher pdps but 0 crit chance?
