Are there any core difference in terms of offense or defense between classes? It appears all classes start with no difference apart from the avatar and skill tree starting point. But im seriously questioning the core differences between classes.

There are two differences:
1. Starting position in the skill tree. 2. Starting stats (a Marauder starts with more strenght than a witch) Number two is a very minor difference, though. Disregard witches, aquire currency.
