Memory leak issue after last patch ?

Something has changed since the last patch.

When i start the client, it runs smoothly for an hour or so,
then starts to hang up. As i continue, the hanging and dsyncs increase,
until after 2-3 hours i can't play at all:
- character gets stuck every 3 seconds literally,
- instances and towns take huge time to load,
- every couple of minutes i am back at the logon screen.

When i restart the client, everything returns to normal.

Watching cpu meter, there were no cpu usage spikes at all,
but the memory was near the top.

I am playing on a 3GB laptop, should be enough for your stated system requirements.

Up until last week i never had this issue,
so it must be something with the last patch.

From my experience with computers,
it has all the sympthoms of a definite memory usage/cleanup problem.

Even the unstoppable force can not break the unbreakable wall.

3GB and Laptop aren't actually great for Path of Exile. In the later stages of the game (Act 3 specifically) 3GB of RAM barely cuts it (once you factor in OS usages). It's not "leaking" memory specifically that's the problem. It's "reserving" memory for a lot of textures and effects and things. It starts to become a problem when you've maxed out your available memory and it has to start "swapping" memory.

You can attempt to resolve some of this "leak" by using -gc 2 (notice the space) on your shortcut parameters which tells the Gargage Collection system to clean up objects from memory sooner. This can increase load time in some areas though because they won't always be cached in memory as it is attempting to do now.

To play PoE really smoothly, you either need an SSD hard disk, or 4GB of RAM (or more would be preferred). I play with 4GB of RAM and even I have issues sometimes. I have to make sure that ALL background programs are closed and that the non-necessary services are disabled, etc. I've tweaked my machines to run bare minimum for gaming. Most systems have a lot of extra processes and services running which can eat up a lot of memory (1GB at least). That leaves you with less that 2 GB free to run Path of Exile on, and that just doesn't work past Act 2 very well.

Good luck.
Same issue, RAM counts up to 8gb and game closes
