If I had enough points for a prize when season 3 ended, but only earned them from descent races, where does the item go? Those characters are gone so it can't go to them.

Not sure what your are asking.
My answer : All items earned are available ONLY on Hardcore, you can then move them to standard by killing a char wearing a reward. Create a char on hardcore and go check your stash you will find a surprise. Anarchy/Onslaught T-Shirt Owner.

thats exactly what I was asking. Reading the old post from the races it said they would make a hardcore character for you if none existed. guess that actually doesn't happen. Thanks.
