Possible to play descent outside of races later?

I recently tried out the descent races, and they are pretty fun.

However, waiting until they are scheduled is a bit annoying. It would be fun to be able to play descent in my own time, and try to beat my own scores (not for rewards, just for fun!). Even if there wasn't a time limit it would still be fun (perhaps even more fun, since you'll actually have time to look at your items.)

Just wondering if, after the races, there will still be a 'descent' league? Where you just start up a descent character, run through, and finish when you die (or get to the end). There could be leader-boards for fastest completion time for eg.
