best char to start with in a league?

Since I would have no currency to use to trade and need to go with what drops I find, what would be the best first character to build in a league?

In races, everyone starts out with nothing. Pick whatever character you are most comfortable playing with. Personally I chose the one that the least amount of players pick because it's usually easier to get more points if you are half decent.
If you are talking about leagues like Anarchy or Onslaught. Play whatever you find the most fun. Everyone starts out with 0 in the beginning. I would say most farming characters are probably Witches though. | |

Every class is gear-dependent in a race.
The easiest class to race with is Duelist, but not because they are gear-independent. |
