Arcane Capacitor & Arcane Surge Support

On my build there is zero increased damage scaling when I use Arcane Capacitor with Arcane Surge Support (linked to my spell gem). My spell costs 89 mana per cast. I cast it quickly several times (with arcane surge active) and the passive doesn't provide any further increases. At 200 mana spent there is supposed to be a 10% increase (up to 50%).

Works fine for me. Logged into a character with everything except Arcane Capacitor allocated (2 small passives for 40% surge effect) and level 1 Arcane Surge support.

82.4 mana/sec while casting without notable
89.6 mana/sec while casting with notable fully ramped up

Unless you're Hiero or stealing the Hiero surge node, Arcane Surge only does cast speed and mana/sec by default. As of 3.21, Arcane Surge support was changed to give % damage while you have Arcane Surge. So the % damage on the support no longer gains damage from surge effect. Only Hiero surge ascend benefits from surge effect for % damage. Everyone else just gains cast speed and mana regen from surge effect.

The two small passives me a boost dps, but when I gain Arcane Surge with Arcane Capacitor selected, I should get a dps boost because of the 10-50% increase in Arcane Surge (due to the increase in casting speed). I don't look for mana regen benefits because I use EB. I get no increase to dps from cast speed when I use Arcane Capacitor. But the two small passives give me a boost from the 40% they offer. Where is the 50% going for my potential dps with Arcane Capacitor?
Ah, because you aren't spending mana with EB. You are spending ES. Arcane Capacitor requires spending mana.

Woops. I didn't realize that specificity. Thanks for the solve. Kinda doesn't make sense if EB is supposed to benefit casting equations. It put a gimp on my strategy. Thanks for the solve.
But just to say. Even though I'm spending energy shield, it states I'm spending mana in the icon overlay. It's just a visual redundancy.
Without a screenshot or unhiding your characters, I don't know what icon you are referring to.
Simply the overlay of the spell on the UI. Anyway, if you don't want to agree that the overlay of the spell on the UI says I'm spending mana when it could be coded to say that I'm using energy shield to spend mana, then all I will say is goodnight. I'm spending mana but it's actually using my energy shield.

In other words. When you highlight over your skill, in the game (on your skill bar) it says the spell costs such and such mana. Not energy shield. It's a fact. Check it out.

Yes, the spell still costs Mana. It can be cast even if you have no Energy Shield, which would not be the case if it had an Energy Shield cost.

When you pay that cost with Energy Shield via Eldritch Battery, you're spending Energy Shield to cover a Mana Cost. You only spend Mana when you pay Mana for the cost.

This is exactly in line with the first line of Eldritch Battery: "Spend Energy Shield before Mana for Skill Mana Costs". You cannot spend Mana unless you have no Energy Shield left to spend.
^ With one exception being Arcane Cloak that still spends mana even with Eldritch Battery allocated since its a secondary mana spend that you can't use life or ES to pay.
