Cortex void pits

Venarius in the Uber Cortex map somehow creates a thousand unavoidable void pits per minute.
These pits deal thousands of damage per second, what is their meaning ?
This behaviour makes this boss fight impossible. It was very much manageable before, in the previous leagues.
