Laggy instances
|
Hi Guys,
I'm having an isasue with random laggy ping-spiking instances. While playing, some instances are laggy and really unplayable while some are fine. Sometimes I enter a new zone while leveling and it so happens to be a laggy instance. At that point there's nothing I can do to fix it other than spam-creating new instances using CTRL+Click until I hit one that isn't laggy. This issue has been going on for a very very long time now. In one case I created a new character and ended up in such an instance where I was then forced to delete and reacreate the character in order to get a new working instance. This also happens in maps. If I enter a map and it happens to be a laggy unplayable instance, there's nothing to be done about it other than sacking the investment loss and going again with a new map. This is driving me away from this game at this point because it keeps repeating with every new league as well as increasing in frequency and severity. I have found this old/dead forum post that describes the same issue ages ago: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3454947 Please help me. The incresing amount of bricked instances is making this game more and more unplayable for me. I love this game and have spent a lot to support it over the years, but it's becoming difficult to justify as I can't get even just an hour of smooth bricked-instasnce-free gameplay per day. It would help if you collected and provided more information.
When you open the game, which gateway is selected as your preferred option? When you encounter what we might refer to as a 'bad' instance and press Tab, which gateway are you connected to? Additionally - the next time this happens, could you run an MTR test to the IP address in the game client's log file, and post a link to that test's output over on Pastebin? https://www.poecommunity.help/information/server-connection GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

Hi,
" I usually leave my gateway on auto select until I encounter this issue where I then switch to manual and I usually select one of the following: Frankfurt London Paris Amsterdam Milan " Sure - I hope I grabbed the correct IP Address: https://pastebin.com/V2gsG5ZS Here is a video showcasing what it looks like ingame: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzz_Wjqjpes |

" I would recommend not relying on Auto. I had asked initially because GGG's servers are configured to redirect you to somewhere "nearby" if your chosen gateway is at maximum capacity, rather than creating and placing you in a queue - and so I was wondering if that was what is happening here. The most probable explanation for the symptoms you describe is that there is an on-route issue between you and a specific data centre. If your chosen gateway is 1) unknown, and, 2) changing all the time, then you never learn which gateways work for you and which are problematic - so there is no ability to workaround the problem. The less we know, the less control we have. " Thanks. Unfortunately, the log has a lot of "No response from host" - this doesn't mean you did something wrong; it just means some of the routers between you and the instance server are configured not to participate in such tests. This limits what we can derive from the log. What we do learn is that there is ~37% packet loss as your traffic passes through Cogent's network - they're an operator of backbone infrastructure, so your traffic is likely to go through them regardless of which ISP you pay on your end - and the server itself shows 35% packet loss. This confirms that the issue isn't with the servers themselves, but is occurring somewhere between you and them. Seeing evidence of packet loss before your traffic reaches the data centre opened by GGG's hosting provider does signal that the specific gateway you connect to is going to make a big difference to the experience you have. This is why it is so important that you don't choose Auto. GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

Hi,
thank you a lot for all the information. From now on I will try to write down on which realms this happens and avoid them. Is there anything else I can do on my end to further avoid this from occuring? |
