Required patch

Hi,

I created an account yesterday night. I had a similar problem which resolved itself. However, I am unable to log in to play as it says upon entering my information that I need to download a patch. I then tried to locate customer service and was directed here.

I asked AI, which I am sure we are all rolling our eyes at, but CoPilot said it was automatic. It also gave me awful cooking advice. Is the patch automatic or am I missing some obvious button somewhere to update to the newest version??

Edit: I was able to go into the systems of the laptop I am using, a mac, and do something which looked like an unintended update or something of sorts as the program opened and there was a POE relevant progress bar. I was able to play one round. I appropriately exited the application and tried to return to play after dinner and was met with the same log in error: "There has been a patch that you need to update to. Please restart Path of Exile".

I usually use a system with windows, this laptop was a gift. However I doubt it should be this complex. Advice would be appreciated - are Macs known to be more difficult for PoE, am I not exiting the application correctly, is there a bug only present for the day which should resolve itself? I highly doubt that I would need to go through such a process of going into the internals of my device each time I am to log in to play instead of just clicking the icon.

I'm having a lot of fun so I am looking forward to continuing my adventure.

I complained about just this in a previous patch; had to reinstall the entire game on MacOS 26.3.1 Tahoe. Problem re-occurred with next patch. Complain to tech support and on this forum. Was told GGG tech support didn't have the time to address this. Forum told me the Mac implementation was crap.
The new patch seemed to fix it however; but this has now occurred again with the latest patch.

Don't have time for this. A shame; will go back to console.

UPDATE: In desperation I re-downloaded the installer for Mac. Ran it once downloaded and it simply applied the patch almost instantly and I was up and running again! Last time it downloaded all 80+GB :-(

They really should document this or at least instruct in the error message! Anyhow working again
