Fps tanks

So I've started playing PoE around Scourge league and I used to play with an acceptable frame rate, playing screen filling builds like tornado shot HH with legions and breaches was completely fine.
Something happened after Settler's league where we got the atlas memories. At first I thought "okay this particular thing is probably unoptimized", and it still didn't interest me at the time so I didn't really complain, the core game still worked fine. I've played the keepers of the flame and each breach basically tortured my pc, I'd barely get 15 fps and that is on a good day. Now again, probably a fluke, I can ignore the new breach and play the core game with the new changes. But now? This mirage is loading literally the same zone in a very limited area. It shouldn't take any longer than 5 seconds and the game definitely should run smoothly. And yet, it still effects my pc as much as the others. My Guess is that the assets made for Poe2, somehow fuck something up in the Poe1 engine and it kills my fps. Maybe it has something to do with engines, the assets themselves, or shaders? I don't know. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 3500X RAM: 16 GB, 2666 MHz GPU: AMD RX 550 Renderer: DirectX11 Triple buffering: On Multithreading: On Last bumped on Mar 18, 2026, 11:24:33 AM

" The RX 550 was considered entry-level nine years ago. In particular, its 2 GB framebuffer is going to be a problem. Most people consider Path of Exile's official recommended specifications heavily outdated and no longer realistic - but even in that context, your video card doesn't meet GGG's recommended specifications. I don't think this is something that's going to get better across future updates as GGG continues to gradually move the rolling target in terms of the 'average' consumer hardware, and it seems unlikely that any local troubleshooting will offer particularly significant gains in framerate. The CPU and RAM are likely both fine for the moment though I would double- and tripe-check any potential new video cards to ensure they are compatible with your motherboard, PSU, and case. The higher up the pricing ladder you go, the more longevity you'll get out of the component. Expecting game developers to be targetting ~decade old entry-level hardware is asking more than is reasonable. GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.
